Jacpher Posted June 1, 2010 Ngonge: Turks won't fire missiles if that's the kind of response you were expecting. I think the Turks are looking at all the options they have open for them while Israel is scrambling for damage control. I think Turks sovereignty is tested when its ship and citizens were attacked in high sea waters but in the end Israel's relationship will suffer. Turkey uses its power to pressure Arab League and Egypt to exert more pressure. But In the end, nothing is stopping Israel to do what it does in the name of defense including keeping the ship and activist still hostages. Heck Al-Jazeera said they had seven journalists on board the ship and they have yet to hear from them or their whereabouts. Israel confiscated anything and everything on the ship and it's doing the investigation.

General Duke Posted June 1, 2010 Turkey sends planes for citizens 2010-06-01 12:00 Ankara - Turkey said Tuesday that it was sending three ambulance planes to Israel to bring home 20 of its citizens who were wounded in the Jewish state's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship. Two of the planes - both belonging to the army - had already left Turkey and the last one would set out later on Tuesday, a statement from the prime minister's office said. One of the military planes would pick up the wounded in Haifa while the remaining two would collect those in Tel Aviv. Turkey's flagship carrier, Turkish Airlines, has three planes on standby to fly to Israel to bring back the remaining Turkish citizens, the statement added. Israeli forces stormed a convoy of vessels carrying supplies to Gaza in a pre-dawn operation on Monday, which left nine activists, most of them believed to be Turkish, dead. Israeli radio reported on Tuesday that 480 activists captured in the raid had been detained and that 48 others would be expelled. The bloody raid triggered an angry response from Turkey, which immediately recalled its ambassador and scrapped three joint military exercises with Israel. - SAPA
N.O.R.F Posted June 1, 2010 Turkey will try to get a charge against Israel through the ICC and it will fail. Expecting anything more than that is silly. They have too much to lose if they go to war.
General Duke Posted June 1, 2010 No one will go to war, but the Israeli's have found another trouble. The Gaza siege will be lifted, that will be the main result out of this..
Blessed Posted June 1, 2010 To this day Turkey was one of the few Muslim states that have had full diplomatic ties with the State of Israel, it was 'the closest Muslim nation' to Israel. They are threatenning to cut ties with Israel NOW, not to go to war with them, even the Turks are demanding more from their government. How is it better than Egypt and Jordan or even Saudi? The ONLY Arab states with diplomatic relations with Israel.

General Duke Posted June 1, 2010 The difference is Turkey is much more powerful than the Arab states, as it has demonstarted in Cyprus. Its a strong nation, united and proud. That has never been colonised. It was an Empire in its day that colonised much of Eastern, central Europe. Turkey is all together different type of state than all the other Muslim nation. It has real military power, a member of Nato and even used to train the israeli army. It seems some here again have no grasp of geo- politics.
Jacpher Posted June 1, 2010 General: Not anytime soon. The blockade will only be lifted if and when Hamas loses control of Gaza or gives in to Israeli demands. That one is highly unlikely. I think ICC is the where they're gonna head and if that fails, it sets a terrible example for the world and bad less credible International law and ICC. Expect all those African nations [where UN Secretary general was this week to build support for ICC] to say forget it.
General Duke Posted June 1, 2010 Jacphar, thats what the Israeli's want, Egypt opened the border crossing today. Even the British foreign minister was asking for the lifting of the blockade. The Palastinians also are playing a smart game by peacefully demontsrating so far.

General Duke Posted June 1, 2010 Yossi Melman, military affairs correspondent, Ha'aretz No matter how one looks at the conduct of the Israeli government and the IDF, it is hard to understand how ****** and tragic it was. Time and again, Israel tries to prove that what can't be solved by force can be solved by more force. Over and over, the policies of force fail. The problem is that with each failure, the part of the world in which we would like to belong is losing patience with us. Emile Hokayem, political editor of The National The Turks are now busy burying their dead who have already joined the long list of Palestinian martyrs in Arab and Turkish minds. That symbolic link with Palestine will not be broken soon, constituting valuable political mileage for Turkish politicians wanting to break ties with Israel. full article »
Hales Posted June 1, 2010 Though Turkish-Israeli relations have been rocky for some time, Davutoglu said Turkey had been looking for ways to help facilitate peace talks. He said that he had scheduled a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Monday to discuss indirect talks with Syria before Netanyahu canceled his trip Sunday. Davutoglu said that he discussed the raid with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday, and Barak had offered condolences.
