Russian Trade Delegation Arrives In Somaliland

Hargeisa,(Qaran news)-A senior trade delegation from the Russian Federation accompanied by the Somaliland Representative In Djibouti, Abdifatah Saeed, have arrived in Hargeysa.

The delegation from the Russian Foreign Trade department are on a fact finding mission to explore investment opportunities and bilateral trade in Somaliland.

The delegation are expected to pay a courtesy call to the Somaliland President, Muse Bihi Abdi, before heading off to various locations in the country, among them, Borama, Burco, Berbera, Oodweyne, Saylac & Tog-Wajale.

Sources indicate that Russia is hoping to counter Chinese influence in Africa, through it’s, “Horn of Africa” Initiative.

Russian engineers constructed the deep water port in Berbera in 1964 and also built the longest runway in Africa at Berbera airport. Both facilities are being currently modernized and expanded by the UAE government and DP World.

Sources also indicate that Russian companies are eager to invest in oil and natural gas exploration in Somaliland, as well as, fishing opportunities.
