nuune Posted November 8, 2010 We all know how every country in the world has something for a trademark, something that is unique to them, I am not talking about Cambuulo & Macsaro which we take for granted, or Guntiino & Go' Shaal ah, but something very unique, even Burundi has that special trademark recognition. Now the good news is that the Top Level Country Code Domain for Somalia, the .SO extension has being relaunched & released finally, it was first created in 1997 & kept by a company that no longer exist, but never used and was not claimed by any Somali Government until middle of last year. This is more than good news actually, not sure if many of you are aware of this, but I have being following this for so long, even as far as 1998 and even made contacts with the company who supposed to manage our .SO domain. Important requirements for registering the domain Launch Schedule: - Sunrise period: 1st of November 2010, to 30 November, 2010: This means ONLY Eligible Trademarks, requirements are allowed to submit a CHIP Code (Clearing House for Intellectual Property, you must have a trademark, and your brand must be well known and exist. - Sunrise Auction Period: December 1st, 2010: Auction for domains with more than one credible application. - Land Rush Period: December 16th, 2010 to February 9th 2011: A good opportunity to submit your trademark domain application if you haven't already done so in the Sunrise Period. - Land Rush Auction: February 10th 2011, Auction for domains with more than one credible application, be prepared to submit your trademark application in the first period, otherwise you will have to face rapid competition! - General Availability: March 1st, 2011, no more requirements, this is when you can even register cambuulo.so or macsaro.so and whatever you want, as cheap as $10 dollar, plus $15 dollar fees, total $24 dollars to register normal domains Ps: There hasn't being much publicity about our Top Level Country Domain Code, the reason is simple, and that is: A Japanese Company handles our .SO extension management, why, because they were successful in their application to manage our .so domain when many registrars applied to the Post & Telecommunication Ministry of Somalia. The other reason why no one heard of the launch of .SO domain is because there has being tsunami of a Colombian Domain, the .CO, very similar like .so, but much more smoother because it suites company owners etc, the .CO domain is still going and dominating the internet, if it wasn't the .CO launch, our .SO Domain would have made to the top news of world media. Another reason is the Japanese guys didn't do much publicity, and I doubt they will do any!
