Grenade blast in Ethiopia’s capital kills 3

A grenade blast in Ethiopia’s capital city Addis Ababa has killed three people, an Ethiopian official said on Sunday.

Alemayehu Ayalqe, director of special and organized crime division at Addis Ababa police commission, said three street children were killed when they tried to handle a grenade they found abandoned in an open area in the city.

Ayalqe said five other people were wounded in the grenade blast.

He further called on members of the public to first inform the police when they come across abandoned objects, to avoid accidental injuries and deaths.

Police are currently investigating the origins of the grenade and who might be responsible for abandoning the grenade in an open area in Addis Ababa.
