N.O.R.F Posted July 1, 2005 We are all witnessing the media exposure of the Live8 events scheduled for the next few days or week or so. A noble attempt at highlighting Africa's problems no doubt, but can we really expect any improvements? There have been a number debates/column inches regarding Africa. Being the ever cinic, i cant help but see a future no different to what we have today. *Corrupt govnts *Mis-management of funds (swiss bank accounts and dipleated schools/hospitals) *shipments of arms to carry-on in resource rich places such the congo (diamond/tin/zinc) The attitude of Africa/Africans needs to change from reliance on Aid in order to live to reliance on steady/progressive governance. This may be hard to achieve in many places due to the huge amounts of debt and restrictions on free trade. But steps must be taken with the view of one day being self reliant and having no debts. The West will need to change its current import tariffs and farm subsidies (CAP quota) if it really wants to end poverty, or else my and your kids will also be raising their hopes in 25years time!
