Farah_Brown, this kind of atrocious cruelty involving a well-known politician is not ordinary. Torture is more often than not carried out by low-level officers but this is exceedingly bizarre. He is the equivalent of a Somali minister and he is doing the butchering himself. That is the only difference I guess.

The torture was initiated by a $5000 dispute if I am not mistaken, and that is the more intriguing puzzle here. The guy is the son of the former president and a member of one of the wealthiest families in the middle east.

No wonder these rogue Arab states are perfect choices for America's once export of its own torture. How many a men went through this type of torture that leads to an organ failure and removal in these places. These rogue states in the Middle East are definately well-known for their ruthless and savage methods of torture. I watched from a documentary that by just mentioning these places is enough to rouse loathsome fear in the detainees' hearts.

Can the this savage be braught to justice by an international criminal court?

I can't get my head around this phenomena of people recording and photographing themselves when committing these heinous acts of terror - so they can watch it at a later time. It's beyond comprehension. Acoodu Billah!

It's obvious he's a psychopath...

There were a story in cumar binu khadaab's time radiya laahu canu where amir's son had a horse race with another guy. And, then the other guy won so the amir's son whipped the other guy saying like how dare you win and am the amir's son or what not. So cumar binu khadaab came down to that city and told the other guy to whip the amir's son just in the same manner he whipped him.. and he said " when did we make them slaves, when their mothers gave them birth free?

it seems people who are something like who have high position think they are entitled to do whatever...it's so heart breaking.subhanalah

wasalaam.

UAE puts torture prince in shackles

Tue, 12 May 2009 09:44:21 GMT

Sheikh Issa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE has tortured a business partner.

Emirati authorities have reportedly arrested the Abu Dhabi Prince who was caught on camera while sadistically torturing an Afghan man.

The world reacted in horror to recently-exposed footage that showed Sheikh Issa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, son of the late UAE president and brother of the Abu Dhabi crown prince, ruthlessly torturing an Afghan grain dealer who had allegedly cheated in a business deal.

The victim was beaten with wooden planks with nails protruding from them, after which the prince poured salt on his bleeding wounds.

The video also shows the prince setting fire to the victim's genitals, giving him electric shocks with a cattle prod, ramming desert sand into his mouth, and firing bullets around him with an automatic rifle.

The video caused uproar among human rights organizations and prompted Abu Dhabi prosecutors to detain Sheikh Issa on Tuesday to further investigate into the incident.

According to a statement by the UAE Judicial Department, "all documents, related to the recently broadcast video, depicting the ill-treatment of an individual have been referred to the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution Office."

If the case goes to trial, it would be the first time that a member of the ruling family in the United Arab Emirates faces criminal charges in a court of law.

Torture allegations against Sheikh Issa came to light a year ago when his former business associate, Bassam Nabulsi, sued the sheik for millions of dollars and submitted the video tapes to a US federal court in Houston.

In his suit, Nabulsi also charged Issa and other members of the ruling family with false imprisonment and with torturing him in an attempt to get the tapes back after Nabulsi's business relations with Issa soured.

The UAE, the world's third-largest oil exporter, has been grappling with its human rights image after facing severe criticism from humanitarian organizations.

More than 80 percent of the UAE population consists of foreigners, most of whom come from the Indian subcontinent.

A torrent of human rights reports have revealed that laborers are largely subjected to extreme conditions. Many are housed in shanty camps and are forced to work long hours in the scorching desert climate. Employers often retain their passports.

I read about this yesterday, not going to bother watching it.

Bob, just because the USA tortures ppl does not make it right for others nor does it even start to justify his acts.

FB, I dont think it matters what level of horror torture falls in, its all the same.

Issa abuse trial draws to a close

Loveday Morris

Last Updated: December 11. 2009 11:57PM UAE / December 11. 2009 7:57PM GMT

ABU DHABI // A court in Al Ain is expected to hear closing arguments in the trial of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday, his attorney said yesterday.

Sheikh Issa, a member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family with no official role, has been charged with “causing physical harm” and “endangering a life” after a video emerged depicting him allegedly abusing an Afghan man who was accused of cheating him.

Sheikh Issa has plead not guilty to the charges, claiming “diminished responsibility” caused by prescription medications that were administered to him at the time, his defence attorney, Habib al Mulla said yesterday.

The unprecedented trial at the Al Ain Criminal Court began in late October, with numerous witnesses testifying over the course of several hearings. The judge may offer a verdict following Monday’s hearing, or he may ask for further testimony and evidence, Mr al Mulla said.

A guilty verdict could entail a prison term of between one and three years, Mr al Mulla added.

An official in the Abu Dhabi Government declined to comment on the case citing the ongoing proceedings.

The alleged offence came to light when a former business associate of Sheikh Issa, Bassam Nabulsi, of Houston, Texas, leaked the video to an American television network earlier this year. In the video a man identified as Sheikh Issa is seen taking part in the abuse, with other men observing and helping, including a man wearing the uniform of a security guard. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department opened a criminal investigation into the case in May.

The defence has argued that the incident was part of an orchestrated effort by Mr Nabulsi and his brother, Ghasan, to drug Sheikh Issa and manipulate events to cause him to carry out the alleged assault and record it in order to blackmail him. The video was released only when Sheikh Issa refused to settle with him, Mr al Mulla said.

On the night of the incident, Mr al Mulla said, the Nabulsis asked Mohammed Shah Poor, an Afghan trader, to come to a farm in Al Ain, informed the Sheikh that he had been cheating him, administered him with drugs and “created this scene” with the aim of recording it.

“The Nabulsi brothers controlled the medication of Sheikh Issa for quite a long period,” Mr al Mulla said, adding Sheikh Issa was given many different drugs at one time, some of which were banned in the UAE. “Sheikh Issa is saying that he does not recall what is on the tape and he is pleading no liability because he lacked free will at the time that this incident took place.”

Bassam Nabulsi has been involved in a protracted legal case against Sheikh Issa in the US. Tony Buzbee, his lawyer, was unavailable to comment yesterday.

There is legal precedent for people being found not liable for their actions if they are drugged without their knowledge or will, he said.

Sheikh Issa is currently being held in detention in Abu Dhabi.

The medication might have been a strong Russian wisky for all we know :D . Its all PR but I think its a good progress if Sheikh Zayid's son could be taken to court over this.
