Haneefah Posted February 10, 2010 What exactly is your goal with this? Who is the target audience? Are you looking for some assistance with brainstorming issues that might be beneficial to cover on a show? Or something else altogether? This might bear some significance in the answers... Of topic a bit, but if I may, I'd like to suggest a gem of a book that I think all medical clinicians/health Scientists should be familiar with: Introduction to Syndemics by Merill Singer. Perhaps this will also inform some of the issues you will want to cover on a medical show, or the approach at the very least?
Kamaavi Posted February 10, 2010 I was wondering about it too. The way NinBrown has put it reads that he has finished the first(, or second) round of the race. Congrats, Dr.NinBrown.
NinBrown Posted February 10, 2010 What race Dajiye? Generally looking for ideas and topics that might be useful to a young audience. But also would like to hear funny/weird questions people can come up with.
General Duke Posted February 10, 2010 My first question is how can one in the US view this show? I have not seen a certain NHS Doctor in years.. As for my questions, let me give you the premise first. In the US they advertise popular drugs, dramatically describing the positive effects and at the end usually rapidly skimming through the side effects. One popular drug is named Cialis and it "helps" males who suffer from erectile deficiencies. Now on the add, it is mentioned that one must seek medical help if one gets an erection lasting more than four hours. Dear Dr, how does one get an erection lasting four hours? Thank you…
STOIC Posted February 10, 2010 ^You are so right.Watch any evening news and you will see how they show you happy faces of drug takers. Drug industry is really breaking the bank. The most dangerous ones I have learned are the anti-pychotic drugs. These drugs are supposed to treat people with mental problems, but wait till you see the side effects. Drugs like clozapine carry labels warning of an increased risk of hyperglycemia and diabetes. The diabetes may be caused by a direct toxic effect on the pancreas. Weight gain can also be a serious problem. Here’s what the label on a bottle of olanzapine states: “One in six patients who take olanzapine will gain more than 33 pounds after two years of use”. Thirty three pounds..Now I think FDA was not blind when the data from this drugs were first published before they put in the market...

Aaliyyah Posted February 10, 2010 As for my questions, let me give you the premise first. In the US they advertise popular drugs, dramatically describing the positive effects and at the end usually rapidly skimming through the side effects. yeah actually I was watching a documentary regarding medication advertisements it was like being critical about it.It's so sad it was pointing out how so many Americans die annually because they take medications that had nothing to do with their problems and how all was due how easily people fall for advertisements. The pharmaceutical companies tend to make it personal..like oh do you worry too much..hey here's a medication for you? making medications for things that do not even exist..and then showing the family all happy. Like they never show you the person sick just the aftermath..so yeah companies just care about making money..so everyone has to be careful don't make big issue out of something that is nothing...the other important point was how they get to know the doctors while they are still in med school and how they make establish relationships with them so later on they can use the new doctors as a mean to advertise their medications..and there were these doctors who took on themselves to educate the new doctors to be mindful...and I cant remember now what the documentary was called. But, I will look into it.. so yeah educate yourself against ads specially the ones they advertise medications, education is a powerful tool so you can live healthy life..use your logic you know... salaam
5 Posted February 11, 2010 NinBrown, you totally don't get it. First you have to go on a national hunt for love/woman/wife. Then you need to fail at that. And then you start a Dr NinBrown show. You've already built up a fan base, you see! And of course you have be young (25-35 yrs old), if you are older than this, don't even try. Seriously, 'cause it'll like totally fail - and not in a good 'fail' way like failing to find a wife amongst 25 paid, wannabe actresses. So when that's done, you write your own questions! Or if you're bad at coming up with cool hip medical questions that'd be interesting enough for young people (so they wouldn't be bored out of their brain, you know what short attention span young people have), you hire people who will do that for you. And voila! There you have it. No need to thank me. Or actually, you can thank me.
N.O.R.F Posted February 11, 2010 Nutrition. Islaamaha iyo odayaashu need nutritional advice. Bariis iyo hilib everyday isn't healthy although it's better than the microwave food so available. A varied diet is what needs to be communicated. Tell them it will help them avoid getting ulcers and gas!
