when Bean and Ender are promoted to Command School and set up to fight a series of "mock battles" on a simulator. Ender, the better commander, is given control of the squad, but because his tactical ability hinges on the fact that, unlike Bean, he is unaware that his battles are being fought in real-time by use of faster-than-light communication.
