Ibtisam Posted September 13, 2007 ^^^I thought you was going to be good thorough out Ramadan yaa Ngonge! Some good News, All the Muslims started fasting on the same day this year, WOW miracles do happen (there are few who did not, like the Shia's in Iraq, they start 2morrow) but even Pakistan and Iran and Turkey fasted with the rest this year. Mashallah is all I can say Let see if they can have EiD same day.
NGONGE Posted September 13, 2007 ^^ I'm good all year round. Besides, it sounds like you're in Zenobia's good books. I was simply trying to dig out more praise for you. Good to hear everyone started at the same time.
Ibtisam Posted September 13, 2007 ^^how is "thoroughly Modern Muslim" more praise for me, or is it a round about way of saying tell me more.! As in years past, the beloved yet unexpected guest of millions, "Holy Ramadan" once again enters our lives. Muslims are filled with great joy in anticipation of welcoming him. Yet to one unaccustomed, it would almost seem as if Muslims had never met him before! All of a sudden, our new-found love for this guest causes us to radically change our daily schedules and habits to entertain him. Our Mosques mysteriously overflow with worshippers, chapters of the Quran are heard chanted till the wee hours of the morning accompanied by a hail of cries, and our social gatherings and feasts become livelier than ever before - all these sacrifices made to honor this special and 'holy' guest from Allah. Isn't it interesting and ironic that while he is among us, for a full 30 days, we starve, read numerous articles on do's and don'ts of treating this guest, avoid watching TV in his presence, and sing songs or Nasheeds of joy, yet we fail to understand him and the mission of his visit? For some odd reason, this same "Holy Ramadan" becomes a stranger to us on the 1st of Shawwal! What many of us forget is that this guest accompanies a deep purpose and responsibility. It is as Muhammad al-Shareef notes: "Whenever a guest comes to our home, we prepare in advance for his arrival by vacuuming the carpet, dusting the shelves, and scrubbing the sinks. We should do this for our guest of Ramadan as well. But the scrubbing should not just be of our physical surroundings, it should include the scrubbing of our sins!" -Lily- Posted September 13, 2007 accompanied by a hail of cries It's not that I'm devoid of feelings or it's particularly funny but I find it hard to keep a straight face and suppress giggles when ppl howl at mosques. You can be touched without making a spectacle of yourself.
N.O.R.F Posted September 13, 2007 Why do Brits see Asian as the only Muslims in the UK? and why does Ngonge still read the times? (explains his views)
Valenteenah. Posted September 13, 2007 Why am I not surprised to see the usual suspects up in here? LoL... It was a rubbish show and I hated them all.
Paragon Posted September 13, 2007 Originally posted by Valenteenah: Why am I not surprised to see the usual suspects up in here? LoL... It was a rubbish show and I hated them all. Lady, can you please point a finger at them? That would be appreciated .
Valenteenah. Posted September 13, 2007 Paragon- Them, the thoroughly modern Muslim women. The thoroughly normal ones. Who did you think I meant?
Paragon Posted September 13, 2007 ^^I thought you would point to NGONGE or someone as 'Thoroughly Modern' as him . You disappoint me, Valenteenah... Them are not the usual suspects. I find 'them' sincerely uninformed, atleast some of 'them'. They need in si qabow wax loogu sheego - no big deal really.
Valenteenah. Posted September 13, 2007 ^ Ey? I think you are mixing up things? The first line was referring to the usual suspects who get off on this type of thread in SOL. And the second line was referring to the BBC show in discussion and the women who were on it. Anywho, NGONGE isn't modern at all. He's a traditionalist at heart, he just doesn't show it.
Paragon Posted September 13, 2007 ^^Me mixing up things? What have I mixed up? Try to understand that I was clear about my usual suspects right from the start. So you are saying NGONGE is a traditionalist at heart? Well that is a revelation. Did you read the bit where he quoted the bible for me, that shocked Sheikh Kheyr? Well then I am a Modernist at heart too Anyway, I watched the show and I found most of the women fairly modest (in their dresscode and outlook). The 'elderly' lady who seemed somewhat confused about things is simply a special case. After all she is beyond late-modernity, I would presume. And to be quite fair to her she only has her priorities mixed-up.
Valenteenah. Posted September 13, 2007 ^ That's nice. You are very kind. The elderly lady irritated me and the rest bored me. But I suppose that may have been the intended point of the show. About you being a modernist, I think most people probably have a bit of both within them. It's a bit like listening to the Qur'an on a shiny new iPod. Ramadan wanaagsan.
