They are armed to the teeth and Abiy does not have the backing of his natural base, the Oromo. He can dilly dally all he likes hoping for the west to come to his rescue but what has now become apparent is that Abiy is incapable of seeing through the democratic reforms Ethiopia needs.

Not mention to Amhara see him as vassal to revive their cultural and political chauvinism, which puts off all other nations in Ethiopia.

He just demonetized the old Ethiopian Bir and created a new currency in order to sideline the billions stashed in Tigray. He said billions of Ethiopian Bir are in Djibouti, Somali and Sudan. 

Despite all his efforts,  the TPLF is becoming a tough nut to crack. A war will bury both Ethiopia and Abiy. The only option left is a prolonged blockade and isolation.

Ethiopia will never be the same. Somalia should start building relationships with the Oromo opposition for future strategic aims. 

Abiy lost credibility by allying himself with the Amhara Neftegna. The Amhara told him he could be the 7th king of Ethiopia with constitutional monarchy and prime minister appointed from the political parties. Abiy even said that he his own Amhara Mom had told he will be a king some day. What a delusion.

 

Anyway, how will this stand off end?.THe TPLF learned from the corrupt Somalis from Puntland, Hargeisa and Mogadishu and printed the Ethiopian Bir illegally and earned billions. Now that money has been demonetized and Abiy told the Ethiopian finance police any illegal money sequestered should be theirs to keep.

It is becoming difficult to stop TPLF penetration of Oromo groups through their network. Amhara are agitating for war, but the nomadic and tough Tigray highlanders will crush the Amhara in no time.

The facts on the table is as MMA mentioned above. Tigray is landlocked. The EPLF-regime with the monstous dictator has never forgotten the betrayal the TPLF made  in the war against Eriteeriya 1998. The Amhara has blocked the roads into Tigray. The Tigerans have a somewhat  cultural and a economical ties with Afar region has betted heavily on the Afar region not joining Medemer but failed in preventing them.    The Tigrayn region election was a show force to Abey Ahmed that the TPLF has the full backing of its people. I belive that the first shots or military action will be  taken by the TPLF in order to ensure their logistical needs through the Afar region.    The TPLF does not want to become another "Somaliland", a secession with no international recognTition. They will probably ignite the first shots in order for the international community comes in and intervenes. It is not in their intrest to have a  protacted war.    Their propoganda that Abey Ahmed Mengistu 2.0 with an  Amhara  neftagna mentality was at first dismissed by the oromo elites but the blodless coup that Abey Ahmed did when he arrested Jawar Ahmed and put Lemma  in house arrest has become the last straw for the oromo activists. Jawars media platform and other oromo satellite channels are now openly calling Abey ahmed a Amhara neftehna. In conclusion do not be suprised  if the first shots are done by the TPLF. They have nothing to lose.

Khadaafi, your theory might work for the TPLf. Rather being a sitting duck , they might ignite the fire and start the war. In 1940, Japan attacked America after she was put on in a devastating arms embargo. Both Abiy and TPLF knows that war will end Ethiopia for good.
