NASSIR Posted January 29, 2005 Thanks for openning this topic. This could be my place to request the lyrics of some of the songs i had often searched. I liked the lyrics of Mohammed Mooge though it has political implications. "naftan walaneysaa waanu kaama maqashee haddi aad manta wacan tahey maku waari doontaa? But again who is more classic Mohammed Nuur Giriig and Mohammed Mooge. Anyone who can contribute his lyrics, i would appreciate.
nuune Posted January 29, 2005 Nassir, sxb thanks for that correction, I also like Giriig's songs, the famous one's like Boodhari sidiisi and Timaheeda dheeriyo, the latter song is my favorite as well, the music is realy what i like about the song, I don't think they can do that music nowadayz. When it comes who is classic, Mooge or Giriig, I would say Giriig, the two got different tone of music, and I like Giriig's music more, that is how I classify Qaraami songs Timahaaga dheeree Boodhari sidiisi the lyrics for Boodhari Sidiisi jacayl waa balaayoo waa baaxad sooroo waanigan basteeyee markaan bilan helaabuu iga bilaayo ayadaa i bogsiisee bar wadnaha ku taaloo igu baahday weeyee boodhari sidiisii barashada jacalykana ayadaa igu beertee been laguma heeso runta lagama beydhee waa loo badheedhaa cilmi kuu la balan balay ee qaas la baa ba'ay baa ana igu balaadhee bar wadnaha ku taalo igu baahday weeye boodhari sidiisii barashada jacalykana ayadaa igu beertee ayadoo habeen badha intaan soo baraarugay baalaha ka eego marka bixiyo faynuus ileen baabah weeyee barkimada dagaaloo bar wadnaha ku taalo igu baahday weeye boodhari sidiisii barashada jacalykana ayadaa igu beertee basarka iyo jaahiyo bilicda iyo nuurkaa haa waa midaan u bogayoo aan u beer raqaayoo biyo nimay u keentaa bil ku soomanaadee bar wadnaha ku taalo igu baahday weeye boodhari sidiisii barashada jacalykana ayadaa igu beertee
dawoco Posted January 30, 2005 Nice topic nuune, but let's modify the game by making those that get qaraami songs explain it to those who are lyrically challenged like myself. Here is a song gabal daye. And the challenge is to give a meaning of the song. Explain the story behind it and give lyrics, if you have the time. That is, of course, assuming that some of you can rise to the challenge
juba Posted January 30, 2005 cool idea but that would require a mastery of the language something ill admit needs to be polished.
dawoco Posted January 30, 2005 ^^Sis we have some linguistic nerds, they know who they are and they better show up before i name names I'm sure they can find it in their brainy conciences to help us understand the meanings of the songs, with qaraami songs they have intresting stories behind them and the meaning is very well thought out i have been told. juba Posted January 31, 2005 ^true! it would be nice to understand what songs we hum and sing to So come nerds! start translating!
Wiilo Posted January 31, 2005 Juba here is the liyrics of Gabal daye song by Khadra Daahir (sorry no translation One of My Favorite Songs) GABALDAYE: Adoo gole ka maagloo, Haweenkaba ka gaabsade Sow taan ku gado baray! Garta iyo tusaalahaa Adigoon gorfayn karin Sow taan geesi kaa dhigay! Go'e halaq miyaa tahay! Hadba marada ii gala Godadlayntu waa maxay? Waad iga gardaran tahee Waan kaa gaddoomee ha goohin Waana kugu gelaynine ha guuxin! Waan guurayaa i gees mar; Gurgurshii la dhaanshee Loo tiriyay guulkee Intuu maatadii gabay Gibisha iyo heeryada Xidhkii kula gaddoomiyo Abaal gabe ha noqonine Go'e halaq miyaa tahay Hadba marada ii gala Godadlayntu waa maxay Waad iga gardaran tahay Waan kaa gaddoomee ha goohin! Waana kugu gelaynine ha guuxin Waan guurayaayee i gees mar.
Som@li Posted January 31, 2005 Very good topic, well done nuune. BTw wat songs fall in the category of Qaraami,pre-1980s? How I came to this music: When I was 14 years old, my father took me to a party in Aden where I heard an Arabic man playing an oud. I liked it and knew I wanted to learn how to play myself....>>>>>interview with Hudeydi,The king of Oud, BBC World Service,
dawoco Posted January 31, 2005 Wiilo nasab in aad tahay waad na tustayee bal translation neh ku soo dar aan kuu duceeynee. Walle i am jealous, i love the songs but can in no way write the lyrics of any somali song. Well done to those who do. But instead of lyrics, why not concentrate on the meanings of the song? That way it will have a more general appeal methinks.
