And, of course, you are blind not to noticed the how easy it is for the majority of the Christian EU countries to take the example of Turkey and say: "we not going to be allowing any building of the kind you mentioned, especially if was Church, to be converted into a Mosque, from this point onward?"

Moreover, you don't see how any European State can easily pass a law in their parliament, which in turn will say: "let's have a tango of this kind?"

After all, two can play this game of "requisitioning" any old building that was converted into a mosque back to its original purposes, whatever it was.

And that means all of those old churches that were purchased by the Muslim communities in the EU's States, who then "converted" them into mosques - with a stroke of a passed bill in parliament - could be "nullified", in toto, particularly, if these EU's States are that minded to be vicious and uncaring to their Muslim Minority citizens, as Turkey seems to be to its Christian's minority.

Whilst, on the other hand, the best these Muslim communities in Europe can hope to get it will be the chance to be "compensated", appropriately, for the loss of those buildings.

Sometimes, you need to think ahead, at least two-steps in advance on the road, even if you are laboring under a mean intelligence of the most pitiful kind, which may be the case with you in here.

Hence, the Turkish's act of "pure religious vandalism", will, no doubt about it, open up a new can of worm in regards to inter-faith realities in every country in the world, where Muslims are either majority or minority, whilst at the same time having a Christian's societies as well. And that is really a bad "social prognosis" to look forward to, indeed.

What makes you think I am supporting Dictator Erdogan here, anyway still he has authority of his country,  so let it be

Maakhiri, please do not be misled by the secessionist sewage-dwellers, who are also notoriously known as bootlickers of gaalada.

Mudane Rajab Dayib Erdogan has had been more democratically elected than the Dotard in the White House. He has been elected and re-elected in so many times by popular vote until Reer Galbeedka and their mass media started questioning the legitimacy of the elections themselves after exhausting other excuses and unwarranted criticisms. It is a classic move of theirs and had used them before in places like Venezuela and other countries' democratically-elected governments they don't like.

Turkey to cover Hagia Sophia's Christian icons during prayers

0d7d6ae7990a410c9e6cdc1ba9fcc3f9_18.jpg

Mosaics in Istanbul's iconic Hagia Sophia will be covered by curtains or lasers during the Muslim prayers, the spokesman for Turkey's governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has said.

The Christian icons would be uncovered and be open to all visitors at other times, and admission would be free of charge, the AK Party's Omer Celik said on Monday, without explaining further.

A Turkish court last week ruled that the conversion of the sixth-century Byzantine site into a museum in 1934 was unlawful.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared the building a mosque and said the first prayers would be held there within two weeks.

The move drew international criticism and concern, including from Greece, the United States and Russia, as well as UNESCO, which is now reviewing the structure's World Heritage Site status.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Ankara was surprised by UNESCO's reaction and would let it know of further steps to be taken regarding Hagia Sophia, which was a Byzantine church for nine centuries before the Ottomans converted it to a mosque.

Turkey is sensitive about protecting its historical character, he said. "We have to protect our ancestors' heritage. The function can be this way or that way - it does not matter," Cavusoglu told state broadcaster, TRT Haber.

On Monday, the leader of Italy's far-right League party, Matteo Salvini, led a demonstration outside the Turkish consulate in Milan to protest against the decision.

"I would stop every kind of financial aid to the Turkish regime, and I would terminate once and for all any hypothesis of Turkey entering the European Union because we have given more than 10 billion euros to a regime that transforms churches into mosques and I think they have gone over the limit," he said.

Salvini's protest came a day after Pope Francis said he was "very saddened" by Turkey's decision.

In response to the pope's remarks, Celik told a news conference in Ankara that the biggest disrespect to Hagia Sophia in history had been committed by the papacy.

He said Orthodox Christians and Hagia Sophia had suffered for years during a "Latin invasion" led by the papacy in the 13th century, when Crusaders pillaged the cathedral.

Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy on Monday said Hagia Sophia is an internal matter and no country can interfere in Turkey's sovereign matters.

"Hagia Sophia will continue to embrace everyone with its new status, preserving the common cultural heritage of humanity," he said, according to an Anadolu Agency report.

Hagia Sophia will open outside prayer time, says Turkey

Turkey’s Hagia Sophia could open to visitors outside prayer times and its Christian icons will remain, religious officials said on July 14, after a court ruling paved the way for it to become a mosque.

The sixth-century Istanbul landmark’s museum status -- in place since 1934 -- was revoked on July 10 and control was handed to the religious authority, Diyanet.

The decision sparked condemnation from Western governments, Russia and Christian leaders -- Pope Francis saying he was "very distressed".

Hagia Sophia spent almost 1,000 years as a cathedral before being converted into a mosque in 1453 and later a museum.

Diyanet said in a statement on July 14 that Christian icons in Hagia Sophia were "not an obstacle to the validity of the prayers".

"The icons should be curtained and shaded through appropriate means during prayer times," it said.

"There is no obstacle from a religious perspective to Hagia Sophia Mosque being open to visitors outside prayer times."

In 2018, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recited a verse from Koran at the building.

Erdoğan, who said the first Muslim prayers in Hagia Sophia would begin on July 24, has insisted the building will be open to all, including non-Muslims.

Meanwhile, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said on July 14 that the Hagia Sophia mosque will be open to visitors of all religions, and anyone who wants to can visit this amazing building.

After a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Monday in Brussels, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said in regards to Hagia Sophia that nobody can interfere with Turkey's sovereign rights.

Aksoy stressed that Hagia Sophia's status is an internal matter and is the property of Turkey.

"Hagia Sophia will continue to embrace everyone with its new status, preserving the common cultural heritage of humanity," he said.

Aksoy also emphasized that all parties are aware of Turkey's stance on the issue of the Eastern Mediterranean and the first step toward resolving the issue is to establish a cooperation mechanism for the fair sharing of hydrocarbon resources between the two peoples of the island of Cyprus.

He added that there should be a resumption of dialogue channels with Turkey and that the tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean can only end through the adoption of such approaches by all parties.

Aksoy stressed that Turkey had always been emphasizing on how there would not be a military solution to the crisis in Libya and said Turkey has consistently supported and contributed to all international efforts to revive the political process led and embraced by Libyans.

He said if the EU wants to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Libyan crisis, it should favor international legitimacy in line with the relevant decisions of the U.N. Security Council.

However, Aksoy stated that they welcomed EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell's dialogues and engagement on bilateral relations between Turkey and the EU.

Foreign ministers of the European Union gathered in Brussels on July 13 to discuss Turkey and international issues in an actual meeting for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All features of Hagia Sophia to be 'better preserved'

Meanwhile, Hagia Sophia will be "better preserved" following Turkey's decision to reconvert Istanbul’s iconic architectural gem into a mosque after decades as a museum, Turkey's ruling party spokesman said on July 13.

"All features of Hagia Sophia will be preserved. It will even be better preserved from now on," said Ömer Çelik, spokesman for AKP, after a board meeting of the party.

Also, UNESCO officials should know that Turkey is open to any cooperation to preserve Hagia Sophia's universal heritage, Çelik added.

"We do not think that Hagia Sophia will be removed from the UNESCO cultural heritage list," he said, adding that Hagia Sophia is not honored with that list, rather the list is honored with Hagia Sophia.

"Hagia Sophia will continue to show its glory to all of humanity as a great place that carries the magnificence of the mosque and the cultural heritage of the universal world," he stressed.

Culture and Tourism Ministry hands over some services at Hagia Sophia to Diyanet

Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Ministry has handed over the management of some services at the Hagia Sophia to the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) after its conversion into a mosque from a museum late last week.

“As it used to be, it will be open to domestic and foreign tourists. Moreover, with the order of our president, restoration works and budgets have been increased massively. We are speeding up restorations with very significant budgets,” Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said in a protocol ceremony.

Ersoy and Diyanet head Ali Erbaş on July 16 signed a cooperation protocol on “Protection, Development, Promotion and Management Activities to be carried out in the Hagia Sophia Kebir Mosque Sheriff.”

According to the protocol, religious services at the Hagia Sophia will be carried out by the Diyanet, and preservation activities will be carried out by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

Ersoy also stated that the Hagia Sophia will be open to tourists free of charge.

The main principles for the protection of Hagia Sophia have been determined by the protocol, he said. “It has been once again signed that the preservation of the historical and cultural aesthetic values of the mosque will be realized,” Ersoy noted.

“Religious services in the Hagia Sophia Mosque will be carried out by our Diyanet. We will fulfill protection and restoration. Nothing has changed,” he stated.

“Hagia Sophia will continue to serve all humanity,” Erbaş said for his part.

He added that they were working to preserve the heritage “in the best way,” in cooperation with the ministry and General Directorate of Foundations.

Hagia Sophia and Erdogan: The debate of ideologies and cultural identities

It was actually interesting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exhausted his options in his quest for what is called, in political marketing, “crisis migration strategies.” He drew the attention of Turkey and the world to the issue of the Hagia Sophia by deciding to convert the Byzantine church-turned-museum into a mosque. This decision has been condemned by the world, especially the UN, which issued a statement deploring the move and considering it an illegal one that is a cause for regret.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay also informed the Turkish representative that Hagia Sophia is part of the “historic areas of Istanbul” and is officially on its World Heritage List. She described it as an architectural masterpiece and a unique testimony to interactions between Europe and Asia over the centuries. “Its status as a museum reflects the universal nature of its heritage and makes it a powerful symbol for dialogue,” she said.

Erdogan’s move was driven by his greed for jumping over his internal crises, the results of his recklessness in the Syrian and Libyan cases, his support for extremist organizations, exporting terrorists to regions of tension, and the fragility of Turkish diplomacy because of his actions with everyone, including Europe, with which he has no hope for any future ties.

There is much clamor and delusion surrounding the issue of the Hagia Sophia due to Erdogan’s recruitment of certain media — including Al Jazeera and its online sisters — to support his stance, while historical facts and tolerant and moderate Islamic concepts that contradict this behavior are lost. His behavior not only reflects diplomatic recklessness, but is also an affront to the concept of Islam. It incites conflict between civilizations and ignites waves of Islamophobia. It echoes the behavior of extremist and terrorist groups, which employ provocative approaches and play the cards of historical components, monuments, and civilizational issues.

Tallaabo

Sultan Fatih (raximullah) has a terrible habaar for anyone who changes the status of Hagia Sophia as a mosque. See it in Erdogan's speech. This is an emotive issue for both the Turks and Orthodox Christians but I think there should be some compromise with the Greeks to improve relations. But I still don't know how anyone can get around Fatih's habaar.

Turkey's Erdogan visits Hagia Sophia after reconversion to mosque

a5029548697544ce84872f923b1b69d9_18.jpg

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a surprise visit to Hagia Sophia just days before the first Muslim prayers will be held at the Istanbul landmark since it was reconverted to a mosque last week.

In a quick visit billed as an inspection, Erdogan took stock of the conversion work, the president's office said on Sunday, providing images showing scaffolding inside the building.

The Diyanet, the country's religious authority, said Christian icons would be curtained off and unlit "through appropriate means during prayer times".

Authorities said last week the mosaics would be concealed with either curtains or lasers when the first prayers are held.

In an interview with broadcaster NTV, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Sunday some mosaics of Mary and Gabriel that are positioned in the direction of Qiblah, where Muslims face during prayer, would be covered with curtains.

He said other mosaics of Jesus and other Christian figures did not pose an obstacle for Muslim prayers because they are not located in the direction of Qiblah. But he did not say whether they would remain uncovered at all times.

Outside prayers, Hagia Sophia will be open to all visitors and tourists and all mosaics will be uncovered, authorities have said.

It was unclear whether Erdogan planned to be among some 500 worshippers set to attend Friday prayers.

Turkey's top court paved the way for the conversion in a decision to revoke the edifice's museum status conferred nearly a century ago.

Turkish spokesman, 30 envoys visit Hagia Sophia Mosque

thumbs_b_c_fa83b3f08018c95e6455f64a3f5d5

A senior Turkish official visited the Grand Hagia Sophia Mosque on Thursday where he answered questions posed by 30 ambassadors and gave information about the history of the structure.

Ibrahim Kalin underlined the historical importance of turning Hagia Sophia into a mosque after 86 years.

“Today, we witnessed again how impressive this place in terms of its historical identity and artistic aspects,” according to Kalin, who said it is a very important place in the political, cultural, religious and aesthetic history of the Ottoman Empire.

“Especially after Hagia Sophia being a mosque, we do not have the slightest hesitation about preserving the historical and cultural heritage and identity of it,” he added.

On July 24, Friday prayers in the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque marked the first Muslim acts of worship there in 86 years.

Hagia Sophia served as a church for 916 years until the conquest of Istanbul, and a mosque from 1453 to 1934 -- nearly 500 years -- and most recently as a museum for 86 years.

In 1985, Hagia Sophia was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Besides being a mosque, Hagia Sophia is also among Turkey's top tourism destinations and will remain open for domestic and foreign visitors.
