Che -Guevara Posted August 24, 2009 This is the traditional way making sesame old (macsaro).I can't see the video, but Somalis usually use camels to rotate the arm. Juxa...Butter is yuck (no offense who uses), just regular saliid or no saliid at all, but I guess macsaro can be used. I just don't like the fumes it that comes out when you throw it over the malawax.

sheherazade Posted August 24, 2009 I made malawax for the second time ever last night. First time was a disaster. I had fruit, 2 pieces of malawax, juice n tea in every order lool and it was bliss.I went to bed happy. Used butter. Where to buy saliid macsara, never tried it. Stop talking about food!! Che -Guevara Posted August 24, 2009 ^Somali stores don't have it?
NGONGE Posted August 24, 2009 Aha! No wonder I found the word funny. Che, 'macsara' is the actual machine or act that makes the saliid ninyo. It must have been called 'saliid macsaro' at some point but, short cut loving somalis decided to just refer to it as macsaro.
sheherazade Posted August 24, 2009 Too much xafish in a Som store!
Juxa Posted August 24, 2009 sheh support them by buying the bariis and baasto from them. i found a store that sells falfaliir (i bet che knows it)
NGONGE Posted August 24, 2009 Thank god there are no 'local' Somali stores close to where I live.
Zakinah Posted August 24, 2009 I find most of somali stores are qashinle and no customer service wats so ever...speaking of malawax i love it with a bit of malab or sonkor lagu firdhiyay and a cup of qaxwo..
Cara. Posted August 24, 2009 Zakinah, don't give Ngonge ideas or he'll report any store that shows up in his neighborhood to the food safety inspectors. Ramadan kariim to all. Juxa, I also think malawax with saliid macsaro sounds wrong. Saliid cad is OK, butter is OK, macsaro only if you couldn't find either. Although I'd sooner use vaseline. I had to log in just to let you know. Back to work.
