Suldaanka Posted June 26, 2020 Addis Ababa, June 25, 2020 (FBC) – Ambassador of Republic of Somalia to Ethiopia Abdihakim Abdulahi Omar said his country firmly supports successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). In an exclusive Interview with FBC, Amassador Abdihakim Abdulahi Omar said GERD is a peaceful project that brings about hopefulness to not only Ethiopia but the whole of the African continent. GERD is nearing to become a pillar for regional economic and social integration among people of the horn, he stressed. The filling of the dam reservoir which starts from upcoming July, 2020 is timely and acceptable for it doesn’t cause any harm to downstream countries, the Ambassador asserted. “Somalia respects the rights of Ethiopia to utilize its natural resources. That is why it rejected the Egypt – Arab league resolution which is against the national interests Ethiopia and the East African Regional at large.”, he noted. Somaliland’s decision to back Ethiopia’s stance on GERD conforms to the truth that African problems must be resolved by Africans, Ambassador Abdihakim added. Suldaanka Posted June 26, 2020 In a statement affirming Ethiopia's rights over its natural resources, Mr. Camay has paved the way for Ethiopia to do the same to the Shebelle River, what its doing to the Nile River.
