Kamaavi Posted December 18, 2008 Are the crystals that are said to form in the brain in Alzheimer's related to cysts? If not, what do those crystals form out of and why?

Biixi Posted December 18, 2008 I'll give the answer to your first question, don't want to show off by answering both questions. Are the crystals that are said to form in the brain in Alzheimer's related to cysts? The answer is "No those crystals are not related to cysts". You're welcome. Those crystals are amyloid plaques in Alzheimers. Cysts, on the other hand, can be filled with just about anything. Try agian, dudde.
Kamaavi Posted December 19, 2008 Technically speaking, Alzheimer's can't be truly diagnosed until the autopsy when the plaques are seen. Otherwise it is just extreme dementia. Thankfully (?), Alzheimer's has other symptoms that go with the plaques in the brain that have a more overt manifestation, so the clinical diagnosis is almost always correct.
