PUNTLAND POLICE OFFICERS SUSPENDED OVER LEAKED VIDEO CLIPS

Garowe (PP News Desk ) — The Deputy Commander of Karkaar regional police Cismaan Axmed Dhalac and Commander of Central Qardho Police Station Cumar Hiirad Kaatun have been suspended from work following video clips leaked to social media platforms.

Puntland Police Commander Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein has apologised to the public about the behaviour of police officers who recorded leaked video clips while detaining young women socialising on the outskirts of Qardho. One police officer is heard urging his fellow police officers to beat up a young man with the group of girls whereas another police officer accuses youngsters of “worshipping fire.”

Fears about the unprofessional and unethical conduct of Puntland police officers have emerged. Influential people in Qardho have demanded a thorough investigation into the case.

Puntland police officers are recruitted on clan quotas and without proper vetting. Lack of training on privacy and personal data coupled with police officers’ low level of education tend to compromise the work of Puntland police at regional and district levels.
