I wlcm the Basketball and American Football fans to join in if the desire the Format i will use is already made , and goes like this Seria A week
Thinkerman Posted January 20, 2004 Italian based reporter Dominique Antognoni highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 17 games. The best… Francesco Totti (Roma) His first goal against Samp was good, his second was pure Totti – simply phenomenal. The fact that his side have been crowned Winter Champions is down to all of the squad but he’s undoubtedly made a telling contribution. People are already touting him to win the 2004 Golden Ball – we’ll have to see whether those at France Football agree. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Valeri Bojinov (Lecce) This 18-year-old has been playing well, and scoring, for some time now. His brace against Reggina has catapulted him as one of the most interesting strikers in the Italian championship. If Lecce do get relegated then they will at least have the recognition that they believed in their young players. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carlo Zotti (Roma) We had to put Alex Del Piero’s hat-trick and Nicola Ventola’s two goals to one side in order to promote young Zotti. The Roma ‘keeper expressed himself well in the win over Samp by even saving a Francesco Flachi penalty. This from a player who nearly quit the game a few months back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Obafemi Martins (Inter) It may be unfair to single out Martins as the rest of the Inter side didn’t exactly impress in the 1-0 defeat to Empoli. Yet the problem was that Inter were looking to this youngster to get them out of trouble. It suddenly becomes clear why the Nerazzurri are in a distant fourth place. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Christian Panucci (Roma) It’s been reported that Panucci was not totally fit before the game but that is no excuse for his performance against Samp. He was clearly at fault for Bazzani’s opener after just a few minutes. His errors continued in the second period. Fortunately he had Totti on his side. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mirko Conte (Sampdoria) Ten years have passed since Beppe Bergomi once considered this player as his heir – something he is clearly not. The way he simply let Totti glide past him for the third goal must have infuriated boss Walter Novellino.
Thinkerman Posted February 12, 2004 Opinion: The best and the rest Monday 9 February, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Italian based reporter Dominique Antognoni highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 20 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best… Antonio Cassano (Roma) Cassano’s display against Juventus - who are not an Ancona - on Sunday was frightening. His performance and two goals have undoubtedly launched him onto the world stage. Not even Zinedine Zidane and Francesco Totti were as good at Cassano’s age. This boy is going to be a star. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Francisco Lima (Roma) Not many people talk about Lima but he never stops working. He may not be able to do a lot on the pitch but what little he knows he does with excellence. He gets stuck in, helps out the defence, he pours forward. An unsung hero. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cristian Chivu (Roma) His tackle on Di Vaio was immense. Chivu has had just one bad game for Roma on January 6 when Milan won at the Olimpico. The Romanian was perfect against Juventus. He was calm, elegant and almost scored with a wonderful free-kick. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Paolo Montero (Juventus) The Uruguayan collected his 15th red card in Serie A last night which pretty much ended Juve’s hopes of getting anything against Roma. The stopper totally lost it by hacking down Francesco Totti. His Juve career may also be coming to an end. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus) Losing 4-0 at Roma was not what he wanted. It may well have been a blessing in disguise that the capital club were pipped by Juventus for his services in the summer. The Italian has struggled but Chivu, who the Giallorossi netted, has been superb. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Christian Manfredini (Perugia) This is not the Manfredini that we admired at Chievo. He endured a nightmare at the San Siro yesterday when Marcos Cafu often got the better of him. And to think that he was once touted as an Azzurri option…
Thinkerman Posted February 23, 2004 Italian based reporter Dominique Antognoni highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 22 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best… Antonio Cassano (Roma) A hat-trick hero against Siena, this boy was marvellous at the Olimpico thanks to his goals and a cheeky back heel. At this point in time, he can commit as many ‘Cassanate’ as he wants if this is the result on the field of play. Just one question: Who is his main rival for a place at Euro 2004? Is it Fabrizio Miccoli or Alex Del Piero? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sergio Marcon (Ancona) Udinese attacked from the very first minute until the very last and Marcon was a credit to himself in the Ancona goal. He did superbly well given the amount of pressure he was under. He may have conceded three goals but it could have been a lot more. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cristiano Zanetti (Inter) He returned to the side after a two-month injury lay-off and he didn’t let himself down. He looked fresh, match fit and even scored in the derby with the aid of a deflection. A real warrior who gave it his all for 90 minutes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Christian Vieri (Inter) He worked hard but he made too many simple errors. In the first half he had a great chance to play in Adriano but simply ran into Marcos Cafu instead. It was a black day for Vieri who didn’t have one shot on goal. Even if Inter didn’t lose just because of him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andriy Shevchenko (Milan) Shevchenko’s lack of inspiration in the derby was a real surprise when you consider that Inter are a favourite target for his. He always seemed too far away from the goal, he looked slow and shy of any real ideas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marco Di Vaio (Juventus) There is an immense amount of pressure on Di Vaio to score when he is given a start and he isn’t always able to. He missed two great chances against Bologna which will inevitably lead to critics saying he isn’t as good as Trezeguet. It’s a shame because Di Vaio is a player that could easily play every week for clubs such as Barcelona or Chelsea
Viking Posted March 2, 2004 That reporter must be a big Roma fan. Milan is top of the table, 5 point lead and has beaten Roma FOUR times this season. But all they got was critisism for Sheva playing lousily during the derby. Uuuurgghhh!
Thinkerman Posted March 3, 2004 lol i guess by cheery picking the reoprts am painting my one picture , but sadly noby else has picked up on the idea, so i tak the oppotunity to inform the mis-informed about great players such as cassano . BTW i didnt agree either about sheva's inclusion, he was quite for that game but he has been fantastic throught te season
Thinkerman Posted April 2, 2004 Opinion: The best and the rest Monday 29 March, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Italian based reporter Dominique Antognoni highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 27 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best… Luciano (Chievo) During his six months at Inter, nobody ever saw any of his trademark wing-play. He returns to Chievo and was unstoppable at the San Siro yesterday. His side’s first goal in the 2-2 draw against Milan was all down to him. He stole the ball from Gattuso, he beat two men before crossing for Sculli to score. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enzo Maresca (Juventus) Maresca is Davids’ heir and not Stephen Appiah. He is now a major player at Juventus after two years of waiting. He’s aggressive, he has fantastic feet and showed his ability with his head against Modena as he scored in the 3-1 win. He has so much more to give to the Bianconeri. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luca Marchegiani (Chievo) He flew from one post to the other yesterday at the San Siro. He was simply superb in goal before that 97th minute Andriy Shevchenko equaliser. His one handed save from a Shev header at 0-2 was marvellous. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Paolo Maldini (Milan) Everyone is entitled to a bad game when you are tired and not 100 per cent fit. He was comfortably beaten in the run up to both of Chievo’s goals. Fortunately for Milan that was Maldini’s first poor game of the season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pippo Inzaghi (Milan) His open goal miss when Milan were 1-0 down had to be seen to be believed. Inzaghi was just never in the right place yesterday afternoon. He got edgy and then wasted another great second half chance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Dahl Tomasson (Milan) It is hard to believe but Tomasson has had a bad game. The Dane looked tired against Chievo. He did have a good chance to score but he was slower than the Gabriel Batistuta that we saw at Inter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUANTUM LEAP Posted April 2, 2004 Hmmm the Reporter and ofcouse the author of this thread are both staunch Roma fans....it goes without a doubt that they have to sing Romas romantic anthems......however, just to balance the thread the following are just about the best I have seen. But Henry has got to be the best player I have ever seen in the flesh.......awesome Zidane without a doubt, no one comes near him I'm afraid .. Dodgy hair though Bergkamp ..Amazing fella when he is on form Nedved, Ronaldo, Shevchenko and ofcouse Aimar of valencia wish Wenger could sign him. Figo was brilliant against the Italians afew days ago.
Thinkerman Posted April 2, 2004 Of course we are quite naturally because when roma are on form there isnt a better footballing spectical anywhere in europe. Mind you we have become abit mediocre this last 3 weeks
Thinkerman Posted April 5, 2004 Opinion: The best and the rest Monday 5 April, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Football Italia highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 28 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best… Dejan Stankovic (Inter) How ironic that Stankovic saved his best performance for Inter against the club he snubbed in January. Juventus were keen to net the midfielder and his display in the 3-2 win last night illustrates why. He set up the first goal, won a penalty before scoring the third. He’s going to be a key figure in the club’s future. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cesar (Lazio) We couldn’t ignore Cesar after his hat-trick against Siena in the 5-2 victory. The Brazilian is one of the most impressive left-sided players in Italy right now. No wonder the likes of Inter and Milan have been associated with summer swoops. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniele Balli (Empoli) Perugia boss Serse Cosmi couldn’t believe that his side lost at Empoli yesterday. The Grifoni dominated the game but they lost 1-0 after a Tommaso Rocchi goal. Yet the real Empoli hero was goalkeeper Balli. He saved everything that Perugia threw at him at the Stadio Castellani. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Paolo Montero (Juventus) Montero’s 16th red card of his Serie A career against Inter last night was perhaps the final straw for Juve fans. The Uruguayan’s reckless tackles left his side with 10 men yet again in a game where they were already trailing. When will he learn? He may not be a part of the new Juve era. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pippo Inzaghi (Milan) What’s happened to Super Pippo? His teammates keep giving him perfect goalscoring opportunities but he just can’t score. The Milan man already missed a host of chances against Chievo last week and his poor finishing continued at Modena on Sunday. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cristiano Doni (Sampdoria) There just isn’t any consistency with Cristiano Doni anymore. The old Doni would have caused little Ancona severe problems in the past but he looked shy of any ideas on Sunday. His side may have won 1-0 but he really needs to be making more of an impact. His substitution surprised nobody.
Thinkerman Posted April 19, 2004 Opinion: The best and the rest Monday 19 April, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Italian based reporter Dominique Antognoni highlights which individuals are on a high and a low after the Week 30 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best… Obafemi Martins (Inter) This lad needs to play all of the time. Even on a bad day he can produce a little magic while on a good day he is always decisive. His goal against Bologna on Sunday reminded many of Ronaldo’s first strike in Italy – which curiously enough was also against Bologna. His critics say that he lacks technique but that hardly matters with his pace and hunger. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Francesco Totti (Roma) The fact that Roma won at Modena yesterday was down to one man – captain Francesco Totti. Had he been absent then we doubt that the Giallorossi would have collected the three points. He scored a splendid goal that had power, precision and technique. How splendid it would be to see Totti play alongside Zinedine Zidane one day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marco Di Vaio (Juventus) What a goal he scored against his former club. If Alex Del Piero had netted that beauty then people would be talking about it for months to come. It’s a shame that Di Vaio is only considered as a luxury reserve at the Delle Alpi. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest… Jeremie Brechet (Inter) It’s hard to understand what has happened to this player who six months ago was in the French national set-up. Now he can’t seem to play for 10 minutes without making one bad mistake. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sam Dalla Bona (Bologna) This is no longer the player that had numerous clubs squabbling over his signature when he left Chelsea. Dalla Bona really struggled to make an impact against Inter. He was a ghost on the pitch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Trezeguet (Juventus) If he doesn’t score then he always has a bad game seeing as he rarely contributes to Juventus’ overall play. He missed three clear opportunities at Parma, which led to some pundits claiming that he is already thinking
