Vagina Monologue with a somali twist.

qst- Somali’s in the diasporas ready for a Somali adapted vagina monologue?

Xalimos have been there and done that love, wouldn’t be surprised if they inspired the vagina monologues. LOL. That seems to be our loudest body part! If you go by the stories of Somali women in the media, you’d think that we‘re a nation of C*** mourners. Nah, Somali women are certainly not inhibited- even the traditional ladies, they got plenty underground knowledge to pass on to the young xalimo. :D They’re just discreet, creative and sophisticated in their manner. ;)

On the VM, I understand that Ensler was aiming for an attention grabbing title, but the crudeness is pretty off putting for many , it is an interesting piece of work from what I’ve read about it, it did get me slightly curious but I personally find all this focused attention on woemenhood a tad bit jaded. I prefer the Araweelo type of feminisim, eedo took penis envy to whole new level which was far more liberating and effective, if you want to focus on genital oppression, woman up and get even, ilayn hadal badani haan ma buuxshee. I think I've gone off topic..

Have a nice day. smile.gif

Cynical lady,

My favorite was my vagina is my village, I was totally moved by that, and I didn't expect it...But now I see what you have meant, putting our own experience to it, it is doable but it's not going to happen easily...I think we first have to think about it and learn how to hear its voice and verbalize...You know it's like learning how to release a rage, you just can't throw all the mental blocks one has, but with time and opportunity we definitely could...Have you written any monologue yet?

Bee bye SS

Che- no it doesn’t.

Cara- may I ask what put you off? And yes I have seen it and played it. Also, That is one, but I believe there is a lot Somali women don’t talk about, in fact whole section about their sexuality/experiences they undergo from childhood to old age is more or less suppressed under the guise or “xishood/ dacaan”. So, it’s high time they do/ encouraged to do so.

Blessed if that the case, then please do give me some eg.

SS- That’s my favourites too and the piece I’ve just performed not long ago. Its soo sad that you just can’t help but let the waterworks run. My other fav is the flood- I don’t know why it always gets it.

So ladies the questions still stand. Do Somali women have a relationship with their vaginas? And if so are they willing to talk about it?

We can also start small and talk about first experiences i.e. periods, sex, birth etc and it doesn’t have to be negative per se but it could also be positive.

p.s Old man get that smug of ure face.

Actually come to think it has a political economy of its own and deserves an acknowledgment if you ask me. I know of the forces you speak of, but many have broken the chain and I believe so can they.

p.s over the weekend I was so proud of myself, when my baby niece shouted from the top of lungs that she has a vagina.

Bismilaahi Raxmaani raxiim!!!! I never reached this hieghts alxamdu lilaahi. The hole needs to speak aaaa??????????To say what?

War maxaa kuleyl gabadha haya? a!a!a!a!a!

Gabdhuhu ha xishoodaan. Like Ngonge said let us not confuse naughtiness and discussing sensetivie subjects with talking Porno.

It seems CL wants to establish a alaabta liberation front as if it is oppressed. If at all, it has to answer for our tiny bones and tiring eyes which was caused with our infatuation with it. Isagaaba rag badan qaba oo mag laga rabaa! :D:D

ATT- if that’s what you’ve managed to deduce my statement to? Then my dear it’s not my fault that you lack the necessary imagination not to mention missing the point.

Don’t even start me on your opener. But then again, I anticipated such narrow minded response, now make haste and read that again and think yes I urge you to think about what your reading/ then look at you response.

p.s do me a favour and go and ask your wife about her recent experience who knows you might be surprised.

If I were to break down the word in Somali so you can understand what AT wrote, a certain mod lady would censor it just to enjoy the juice.

Why is writing such words in Somali sound so haraam and trigger reactions like 'acuudu bilaahi' 'xishood' 'maxaad ku hadli' and when in other languages, it falls on receptive ears to bring out loud giggles.

/QB]

I think most Somali women's vaginas feel depressed, oppressed, neglected, and unappreciated for the wonderful things it can produce and have contributed to the man kind. The first thing we should do is to liberate it, then it can have a voice to speak. Maybe give it Prozac or something, so it’s beautiful cheeks can feel the happiness one feels when they smile .

^^^ Opressed, Neglected and Depressed indeed.

It was called "Ufta" "Ceebta" among others.

CL asked if Somali women have relationship with their Vajay-jay (for the sake of those who are afraid of the name.)

Well, ladies get the ball rolling and let the liberation start.

All girls here, particularly CL

Frankly speaking, this discussion here is not necessary or even decent. Just because some white guys wrote about things doesn't necessarily mean we, somali's and muslims, should write and talk about it. This is a manifestation of deep sense of inferiority and cultural confusion. Where is that Haneefah? Is she only good enough to come down on poor A&T and generally men, with the force of an injunction when some lines are crossed? Could she be a feminist in hiding herself? she should come out and denounce this uncivilized, lost girls' lewed utterances.

People can talk and joke about sensual matters, but what is the purpose of threatening to paint the cheeks of some private parts in preparation for its 'emanucipation'?? Where does that discussion take us from here?

Having said so, I will not be living upto my share of controversy if I don't reply bluntly to some of the things westernized and clearly mesmerized girls are saying here. this is what i want to tell to those who think something is oppressed: If that of some of yours has been wrapped with spiders web for not being used for long time, it is wrong to assume all other women are suffering from similar malady. Leave private parts, especially when some are distinctively known for their effulavia out of daily discussions.

And suppose glassyeyegirl, you put the paint around its beutiful cheeks, then what??? Stick its picture in big posters? No one is titilated by your ultimatums. Isku xishoo!

^Wonders never cease, AT&T lecturing people on decency.. *looks out of the window for flying pigs*

Bisinka@ oppressed, neglected and depressed.  Where's Malika? Guursada ha idin dhahdee. :D

CL,

Maybe another time, hon. I don't think that it's an appropriate discussion in this forum. I don't see what is to be gained from discussing your personal intimate matters to a bunch of strangers and with lurking perverts.

The issues you've mentioned are more than just the vagina and discussions on them might be neccessary but that’s where mothers, sisters, girlfriends, doctors (if you have issues) and husbands come in handy. I really don't see why any woman in this forum would share her secrets to a bunch of prying strangers who just want to make a point, really people are too scared to share their names and you want them to take their kastuumos off. LOL.

If xayaa ain’t your thing, then a lot can be said for mystique. ;)

Blessed,

There is a marked difference between writing stories about sensualities and talking about private parts in public. I have never crossed that line for all my naughtiness. Plus, what may look pretty on me (as a man) might not look so on a girl. Or so I think.

^^ No they're not. His are titillating stories for the sake of entertainment. What you see is what you get. This is a crap topic masquerading as something deep and philosophical. It uses shock tactics to make its point. It's controversial even in English, never mind Somali.

Having said that, A&T and that nincompoop by the name of Goodir are being explicitly obtuse. On the one hand, they are accusing the girls of not being 'lady-like' and on the other they themselves are not acting in a gentlemanly manner with their choice of words and responses.

CL means well (in that flower-in-your-hair hippy way of hers) but she made the mistake of not applying the twist (to the Monologues) herself instead of asking the crowed to do it.

We do not care how clever, profound or intelligent the Vagina is, we are Somali and we do not find it appropriate to listen to talking female organs (A&T and Goodir will probably include the mouth here :D ).

I would like to add only one caveat here: if it were done in a creative and original way, I personally would listen to a talking toe. :D

If you are looking to your vagina for freedom iyo empowerment, I can tell you for free you are looking in the wrong place.

As for vagina monologue, it is seriously vulgar and demeaning way to try and put across issues of empowerment and freedom. Why is vagina the symbolism of a womanhood elevated to the position of speaking. Ending all sorts of violence against women, really? This show is nothing more than people getting obsessive about an organ and trying to mask that, and the only people who have the luxury to obsess about it and take a course in it are rich spoilt little brats that have never been oppressed in anyway or women from poor backgrounds who they exploit and humiliate, giving them few pennies for their story. The only reason it might work is due to shock tactics.

The long and short of it is, if you use your vagina to talk about important issues, don’t be surprised if you receive your answers via they same method. Depicting womanhood as women’s body or parts of her body is shooting yourself in the foot.
