I doubt a lot of people would support the abuse of children, there are only a few people who are advocating such perverted policies. The born again Christian fundamentalists have advocated against many issues that are morally aligned with faith based individuals including Muslims when it comes to the question of homosexuality, abortion and secularism. Even so, these groups hate each other even thou their interests and basic understanding of issues are similar. Democracy is good when it is kept in check, I think these people are driving this policy to serve their own interests – this is pushing the envelope. However, it shouldn’t deter or rather discourage many people against democracy – otherwise, the substituting system will be more difficult to function in – unless it is an Islamic one – even so, do we have a fully Islamic nation in the world today? Often many of my colleagues often argue that Saudi Arabia is the best country to be living in if you’re Muslim --- of course with closer examination we clearly see it is not the best Islamic state --- they give millions to western universities that train the next leaders of the free world, who get the ‘best’ education with a grain of Orientalism as Edward Said described, a double blind investment. Don’t just b!tch about the political system you live in, participate in it, join interest groups, many of these groups as sick as their ideologies might be – they have made a point in using procedural methods to infiltrate the system to advance their twisted ideals. We should be able to do the same movement to counterbalance those ideals. Our function within the system is one that is reactionary at the moment – write to your local rep, create groups that will advance the collective interests of Somalis – be it unbiased policies or bettering our public image. Don’t knock democracy, participate in it and shape it to your liking, or sick minded people will keep doing what they do best, that is daring to advance the most immoral actions that even a pro-humanist advocate would object to.
