MAYOR CRITICISES SOMALILAND GOVERNMENT FOR BURRYING COVID-19 VICTIMS IN BURAO

Burao (PP News Desk) — The Mayor of Burao Mohamed Murad has criticised Somaliland Government for transporting bodies of people who died of Covid-19 to Burao for Burial.

“One person who had died in Hargeysa of Covid-19 was buried in Burao. Another body is currently being transported to Burao for burial. We urge Somaliland Government not to authorise the repatriation of body of a person  who has died of Covid-19 in Hargeysa to Burao for burial” the Mayor told the media at Burao General Hospital.

The Mayor added that transporting the body of Covid-19 victims to Burao increases the spread of the virus.

Somaliland Ministry of Health has yet to issue guidelines on funerals for people who died of Covid-19. The number of people who died of the novel Coronavirus in Somaliland has increased.

Somaliland has rudimentary health care facilities that will  be overwhelmed if the spread of Covid-19 continues.
