Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted January 8, 2006 Salaan... I just remembered one of the coolest childhood games. Childhood memories wax la iloowi karo ma'aha. Qof nasiib u helay ayaa yaqaano, siiba qof dadkiisa lasoo koray. Ka soco. Ciyaalkeena Soomaalida, siiba kuwa magaalooyinka daganaa, had something resembling seasonal games. A game is so popular in few weeks or months, and then it declines. Another becomes the hottest. That was the trend, the recycle. In late '80s, one of the weirdest games was invented by some ciyaal. (It was perhaps borrowed from other cultures. I still don't know.) It was a serious, freakish, yet amazing simple game. Here's how it went. The participators were eight people. One body likes on the ground, acting as a straightened corpse, the face facing up. The remaining seven encircle the lying body. Three would stay on the left side of the body, the other three on the right. The lone remaining person would stand at the body's head position. Then each person lets out his index finger, and it alone. Each would then put the index finger under the body and exactly meeshee wada jilba jabsan yihiin, including the lone one who sits at the head's position. Then they will recite those following seven lines [i forgot some lines in the middle]: Maata maata Maata diyuuc Ishtal taadil [?] ...... ...... ...... Kuliyaa Sabcaa Obviously the words were Carabi. After the last words, "kuliyaa sabcaa," which was particularly shouted, each will rise while still the index fingers are under the body. The magic moment then happened: The body will move up. Yes, a body lifted by a mere seven index fingers and nothing else. If you think I am on something, walaahi it used to happen. We used to say it was jini that used to help us lift the body because all while doing this, we all must be in serious behaviours. Otherwise a little qosol or cracking will suddenly stop it, even if the body is in the middle of the air, dropping. What a ritual it was. What a bunch of crazy ciyaal we were. nuune Posted January 10, 2006 MMA, lool, I don't think many people will believe you about the lifting body, only those who did or participated such cayaalnimo acts would say "I remember doing that". you are right about the circle of games that used to go as a ritual thing, marba wax cussub lee la xiiseeyn jirey, ciyaar cussub oo qaab daran sometimes sida tan oo kale waa inaan soo wada xasuustaa gameyadii aan ka dhigan jirney sidii taraawiixda camal, this one maata-maata was unknown game to many others as it involves some camalul jinnni wal cirfiidi. Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted January 11, 2006 Ciid wanaagsan, widaaygiis. Ar maanta camal laba gaal aa guriga Xamar lagu qali jiray. Ar maxaa u xiisay. Hilib gaal macaanaa. XaaX. Maata, maata, taloow adigana ma taqaanaa? Waan ogaa inay dad dhif ah inta ku jiro ila kasi karaan, oo dadka badankiisaba aanan maqlin ciyaartaas. Markaas aan qoraaye aan iska soo xasuutay. Ciyaar ciyaalnimo waa wax aadan ka weynaneynin runtii. Mar mar kaligaa oo iska qosleysid ayaa is arkee, oo wax waayo waayo iska soo xasuusanee.
Jacpher Posted January 11, 2006 Are you from that area where people used to ride crocodiles in the banks of the river? I used to hear those wild crocodiles does their river fishing and they watch the football game not on TV but in a baaf full of water.

Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted January 11, 2006 Duqa, ciyaal baa iska ahayn. Not that I believed anything. But the fact is, the body, when a ritual like this was performed, DID move up. As Nuune wrote, not many people would believe unless seeing to attest it. As I wrote above, it was weird experience, oo waaba acuudi bileysan jirnay. Ducaqabe, what are you saying? That we were reer Baxaar? Adigaaba reer Kismaayo ah noo sheeg, meeshaas ayee dhoobanayeen.

Maskiin, markaan aqrinaayay sheekada waxaa igu soo dhacday ciyaartii la dhihi jiray, xumburi jabto, xeero jabto, xumburi jabto xeero jabto..... inta qofka lagu fariisiyo labo qofood gacmahooda oo markaasna lagu xambaaro. Laakiin sheeko aanan waligeey maqlin aaba keentay hada... Cajiib, sixirkii Hindiya miyaa hee, warka ii balbalaari hee.

Speaking of weird things, when I was a kid living in the Afisyooni area, I was fascinated with swings. One day, I found a really thick and strong rope that was just perfect for a swing. I took the rope and had my dad tie it into a nice tight knot and then tied it to a strong branch of a big tree. My new swing was the envy of every kid in the neighborhood. That rope was so strong a 200 pound person could ride on the swing with no problems. One afternoon while merrily swinging, a homeless old man came walking by. He was mumbling to himself and when he saw my swing, came straight to me. He grabbed the rope and started to rub it up and down while muttering some gibberish. He did that for a few seconds then said in the clearest language: "you will be on the ground soon". I couldn't believe the nerve of this man. How could a rope this strong fail me? Before I could finish that thought, I was flat on the ground and the rope was in two pieces as if cut by a knife. It's been nearly twenty five years and I still remember that day like it was last week.
Jacpher Posted January 11, 2006 Saaxiib armaad dhan khaldan u qaadatay? Raali noqo ina adeer Majango aan ku korey ma ka jirin waxaas. Baxaar xey tahay? Ma baladul jinni mise baladul insi?

Do you really believe that levitation stuff? I don't know about the levitation stuff, but the existence of magic (not on Disney's level ) is not a question. The Qur'an proofs it and even the prophet (scw) was cursed at one point. I am told it is a common habit of people living in southcentral Somalia. Anyhow, the act is so blasphemous the prophet (scw) included it in the seven most greatest sins along with the unforgivable shirk. The prophet made it clear he who engages in magic asserts their disbelieve in Islam. Here is a good link.

Actually, magic is real according to the Qur'an, but is extremely haraam.
