Deeq A. Posted April 28, 2020 Qardho (PP News Desk ) — The district of Qardho woke up last night to floods caused by torrential rains of the spring season. Initial reports indicated three people have lost their lives. A clearer picture is emerging about the impact of floods that have affected more than two-thirds of the district. A lorry being driven in flood-swept street in Qardho The Mayor of Qardho Abdi Saeed Osman told Puntland Post that so far six people had died. “Three children and three elderly people have died. Seven people are unaccounted for.” The Mayor said the district administration is still gathering information about casualties while responding to massive displacement with which the district is unable to cope without assistance. A property destroyed by floods Floods destroyed many properties and businesses. The district administration temporarily accommodated some families in schools. “Families have lost wealth as a result of floods and are waiting for temporary accommodation. Floods overturned many lorries” said Qardho Mayor. A car and lorry submerged in rainwater Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni arrived in Qardho this morning with a delegation to assess damages caused by floods. Torrential rains begun to fall on Monday afternoon. “Rubbles of stores and commodities inside them are indistinguishable” says a local businessman, who was surveying the plot of land where his store once stood.
