Garowe ( PP News Desk ) — Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is facing criticism for appointing Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein as the new Commander of Puntland Police Force. As a part of mutineers who opposed security reforms proposed by the former Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali in 2015, troops under the command of Abdi Hassan Hussein had  fired light anti-aircraft gun at the United Nations compound in Garowe.

President Ali fired Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein, who headed Puntland Intelligence Agency,  for professional misconduct. Observers question the judgement of President Deni to appoint a person who is held liable for causing intentional property damages.

“President Deni will have to reverse his decision to appoint Abdi Hassan Hussein as the Commander of Puntland Police Force if Puntland is to work with UNSOM” said a former political officer with UNSOM in Garowe.

Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein had taken part in mutiny that nipped in the bud security reforms introduced by President Abdiweli whom President Deni replaced in January 2019.
