President Deni fires Puntland Police Force Commanders

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni today fired the Commander of Puntland Police Force Major General Muhiyadin Ahmed Muuse. Brigadier General Abdi Hassan Hussein has been appointed as the new Commander of the Police Force.

The First Deputy Commander Brigadier General Bile Farah Ali and the Third Deputy Commander of the Police Force Colonel Ahmed Mohamud Ali have been fired as well. In a statement for the media, Puntland State Government described the decision as a steppingstone to restructuring Puntland State Force Police.

The security situation in Puntland has been deteriorating. Last month Al-shabaab assassinated in Garowe the former Governor of Nugaal Abdisalam Hassan Hersi. Targetted assassinations against Puntland police officers have been on the rise in Mudug and Bari.

The new Commander of Puntland Police Force served as the Commander of Puntland Intelligence Agency.  In 2015 President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali fired Hussein, who along with Major General Mohuyaddin had organised a short-lived mutiny aimed at foiling security reforms proposed by President Abdiweli.
