There is a pattern, in my understanding from the reporting:
1. Some countries cannot hide
2. Some countries do not want to hide
3. Some countries are so backward and poor or do not control their teritories

1. Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morroco..may have wanted to hide, but they are too technically advanced relatively they cannot hide
2. Sudanese and for most part Somali would not hide very open society and people
3. Xabeshi are this third kind. They want to hide and everything helps them to hide. Backwardness, secretive society, poverty and no control of all territory..etc

Coronavirus: Another 7 deaths reported in Ethiopia

Ethiopia on Sunday confirmed a further seven deaths due to the novel coronavirus, bringing the total tally of fatalities to 27.

According to the Ministry of Health, 86 people were diagnosed positive in a day out of 6,092 samples tested.

The deceased, according to the daily update, were in the age range of seven and 87 years. All were Ethiopians.

Among the dead was a 34-year-old woman who delivered a healthy baby last week at the Yeka Kotebe hospital in the capital, which is being used as isolation center for COVID-19 patients.

The number of COVID-19 cases has now jumped to 2,020.

At least 344 patients have so far recovered, the minister of health Liya Kebede said.

Health experts cautioned that the main rainy season of June, July and August would see peak in infection numbers as the country is now grappling with community transmission.

To the surprise of many, African governments have responded swiftly and boldly to the COVID-19 crisis. Ethiopia’s unconventional approach, for example, reflects the country’s limited financial and human resources, as well as the low level of available international support. Despite these severe constraints, the results so far have been better than anyone expected.

From the start, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government understood that Ethiopia’s success in combating COVID-19 would depend not on the number of respirators it had, but on the public-health measures taken to contain the virus’s spread. His government also wanted to prevent serious damage to one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, which expanded at a 10.5% average annual rate in 2004-18 but remains vulnerable. Safeguarding these gains, preventing job losses, and ensuring firms’ survival was critical.

So, instead of implementing a national lockdown like most other governments, including in Africa, Ethiopia initiated other essential measures in January, well ahead of most developed countries. The government then scaled up its response in mid-March, when the first COVID-19 case was reported in the country, and declared a state of emergency only on April 8. Moreover, it has encouraged production and other economic activities to continue during the crisis, thus considerably easing the pressure on vulnerable social groups and the informal sector.

Ethiopia records highest daily increase as 399 new COVID-19 cases confirmed

 Ethiopia's confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 4,469 after 399 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed on Saturday, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health said.

This is so far the highest daily increase in the Horn of Africa country.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Saturday, revealed that from the total of 4,848 medical tests that were conducted within the last 24 hours, some 399 of them have been tested positive for COVID-19, eventually bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,469.

The ministry further indicated that 398 of the latest confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals and the other patient is said to be a foreign national, with an age range of four to 85.

A total of 1,122 patients who were tested positive for COVID-19 have so far recovered from the virus, in which 95 of the patients recovered during the past 24-hours period, it said.

The ministry had previously disclosed that the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the East African country has reached 72.

Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 13, which has so far conducted about 211,871 COVID-19 medical tests.

The Ethiopian government has instituted a wide range of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. In April, the Ethiopian House of People's Representatives announced a five-month state of emergency to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Enditem
