Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted April 27, 2020 Xabashiland is trying to fool the world by sharply under-reporting their Covid-19 positive cases. To date, the authorities there are reporting only 124 positive cases and three deaths. This from a claimed population of more than 110 million. This from an airline that flew daily on months to Chinese cities in January, February, March and April. On 24th of April, they reported a single positive case. Same with on April 26th, with another reported single digit case. Their daily reporting of positive cases fluctuates weirdly. See the graph below. The two first deaths occurred in April 5th and the third death happened, they said, on April 10th. No more deaths since then was reported. Xabashiland has lower cases than many countries and territories with a fraction of the population they have. Far lower cases than Rwanda, Jabuuti, Brunei, Gibraltar, Guadeloupe, Gabon, Faroe Islands, Maldives, Montenegro and more. These countries and territories whose combined population is not even a third of the claimed population of Xabashiland.
Old_Observer Posted May 3, 2020 It is to be expected. They could have said they do not have capacity to test or tell the dead what was the main illness/reason they died. The numbers do not make sense even for one neighborhood in Addis Ababa let alone for the country. As shown Ethiopian airlines did not change any of its flights. 4 or 5 flights to china daily. Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted May 3, 2020 It is 135 cases now. Every day there is only one or two cases. The deaths had not changed from three since April 10th. They can lie all they want, but they should at least do 'been sheeg laakiin been run u eg' as the saying goes. It is same way they over-inflate the number of their population. I don't think it ever reached a hundred million.
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted May 3, 2020 Yea, right. No coronavirus case in Ethiopia over past 24 hours Ethiopia on Saturday said no COVID-19 case has been found in the last 24 hours. The daily update by the Health Ministry showed a record number of 2,016 tests were conducted over the past day. "No new infection has been found from the samples tested," it said. Meanwhile, the ministry said additional three patients have fully recovered. That brought the total number of recoveries to 69, surpassing active cases that now stand at 59. Of the total 20,770 virus tests conducted in the country so far, there are 133 confirmed cases and three deaths. According to Health Minister Liya Kebede, the country is well poised to step up its lab testing capacity. She also said her ministry was getting rundown ventilators repaired to be prepared for the worst. Ethiopia only has a few over 400 ventilators, but, according to Liya, the country is in the process of importing more ventilators. Xigasho
Old_Observer Posted May 4, 2020 Half the population suspects the Abiy regime of playing games with Coronavirus and are mistrustful to testing. The mistrust of Abiy by Ethiopians is an infinitely more than that of Kenyatta. So if its this big of problem in Kenya, its more of problem in Xabeshilands. https://www.aa.com.tr/en/africa/kenya-records-low-turnout-in-mass-coronavirus-testing/1828539
Che -Guevara Posted May 4, 2020 Is just me or does anyone think Abiy will be the person that will undo Ethiopia, not because he wants to, but simply sheer incompetency?
Holac Posted May 4, 2020 The guy is incompetent. He is just laying low asking others to write "dear leader" articles about him while thousands are dying in Ethiopia from this deadly virus. No shame whatsoever.

I'm expecting he's going to win the general election later this year, as much as he's hated, I don't see him being replaced. My belief is that Abiy is double downing on the Grand Renaissance Dam and the few port deals he has going. Before ethnic tension implodes the country into chaos. Hear me out for a sec. Berbera Port has seen extensive development lately and the roadwork is progressing. This port will be of considerable help to Ethiopia when it's fully functional. Ethiopia offered to develop a new port in Sudan earlier this year and Sudan agreed, this is a big win for Ethiopia. There's talks of building a rail connection to Eritrean ports, nothing has come to fruition as of yet though. Couple this with the Grand Renaissance Dam nearing completion, that's forecast to annually generate ~16,000 GWh when it's reservoir fills. The reservoir that forms, Millennium Reservoir, is expected to have a volume 3x that of Lake Tana. They're expecting to have a lot of fish there too, they're forecasting about ~7,000 tonnes annually. Along with the potential to make the area a tourism hotspot. We could be seeing a very different Ethiopia in 5 years time. It's how I'm beginning to see it as; a race against time for Abiy. Get these projects to work and align. It's the only explanation I have for how he's moving.

I don't know why would any sane pro-Soomaaliya and for midnimo Soomaali would criticize Abiy Axmed. For all his faults and policies in Xabashiland, he is helping for Soomaaliya judging from his policies towards to Soomaaliya. I for one do not give a hoot what he does in Xabashiland. He could easily have chosen to pursue the failed divide-and-rule policies of Tigrey generals in Soomaaliya. He did not. He removed the infamous Gabre from Soomaaliya's political spheres as well. He cut any contact to maamul goboleed and their monthly, if not weekly, pilgrimages to Adisababa. If it wasn't Abiy Axmed, Shariif Xasan in Koonfur Galbeed would still be relevant and continued his shenanigans. Axmed Madoobe would have been emboldened to do whatever he wanted. In Waqooyi Galbeed, they would not be this toothless and desperate for anything. And in Soomaali Galbeed, he removed the Tigrey top lapdog, Cabdi Ileey. He does not suppress for Soomaaliweyn symbols, the flag and the national song, Soomaaliyeey toosoo, which are now Soomaali Galbeed's astaan.
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted May 6, 2020 Ethiopia: Free Speech at Risk Amid Covid-19 The Ethiopian government has been using Covid-19 restrictions and a recently declared state of emergency as a pretext to restrict free speech. In the last month, the authorities have detained a lawyer, Elizabeth Kebede, and charged a journalist, Yayesew Shimelis, for comments on social media about the government’s response to the coronavirus. A new state of emergency declared on April 8, 2020 gives the government sweeping powers to respond to the pandemic, heightening concerns of further arbitrary arrests and prosecutions of journalists and government critics. “While misinformation about the pandemic can be a concern, it’s no excuse to limit free speech,” said Laetitia Bader, Horn of Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “The authorities should drop charges against Yayesew Shimelis, release Elizabeth Kebede, and stop detaining people for peacefully expressing their views.” After confirming the first positive Covid-19 case on March 13, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced an initial series ofdirectives to stem the spread of the virus, which also urged “media institutions to deliver accurate information to the public.” On March 26, Yayesew, a journalist and producer of a political program on Tigray TV, a regional government-owned station, alleged on his personal Facebook page and on a YouTube channel he administers that the government ordered the preparation of 200,000 graves in anticipation of deaths from the virus. Government officials immediately condemned his remarks as “false.” The following day, Oromia police, along with two members of Ethiopia’s intelligence and security agency, arrested Yayesew at his family’s home in Legetafo, on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, and took him to the Addis Ababa Police Commission, where he was questioned about his political views and reporting. The authorities also seized his laptop, cellphone, and notebooks. It’s unclear whether they obtained a judicial warrant, as required for searches. Addis Ababa police alleged that Yayesew spread “false news” but held him for nearly three weeks without bringing formal charges. On April 15, a federal judge granted him bail, finding that investigators lacked sufficient evidence to proceed with the investigation. Federal police investigators then intervened in the case, appealing the court’s decision and accusing Yayesew of violating the revised anti-terrorism law. On April 20, a federal judge granted Yayesew bail a second time, again finding that investigators lacked enough evidence to charge him with terrorism offenses. Federal police finally released Yayesew on April 23. But, according to court documents Human Rights Watch reviewed, prosecutors have now formally charged him under the country’s new hate speech and disinformation law, citing as evidence postings and private messages obtained from Yayesew’s personal Facebook account by Ethiopia’s Information Network and Security Agency (INSA). The new law, which took effect on March 23, contains an overbroad definition of disinformation that provides authorities with excessive discretion to declare unpopular or controversial opinions “false.” The law also arbitrarily imposes harsher penalties for social media users who have more than 5,000 followers, as Yayesew does. On April 4, Addis Ababa police detained Kebede, a volunteer lawyer with the Ethiopian Women’s Lawyers Association (EWLA), one of the country’s leading women’s rights groups, and transferred her to the custody of Harari regional authorities. EWLA lawyers told Human Rights Watch that officials have not charged her with any offense but accuse her of disseminating false news in Facebook posts that officials claim could “instigate violence.” Human Rights Watch
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted May 6, 2020 Back to the topic, suddenly today, May 6th, there are 17 new positive cases out of the gates. The last two days it was five positive cases each with one death. Still they are keeping the numbers very, very low.
