Somali police chief fires district police head following shooting

The commander of the Somali police force, Abdi Hassan Mohamed [Hijar] has sacked Boondheere district police commissioner Najib Arab following Friday night shooting.

The decision comes as hundreds of residents stage a rally in the capital on Saturday to protest against the shooting of two unarmed civilians by a policeman during a curfew.

The government has announced it revised the hours of the curfew, says it will begin at 8 pm instead of 7 pm to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

The country has seen an increase of Covid-19 cases in recent days with health ministry confirmed 328 plus the deaths of 16 people from the pandemic.
