NASSIR Posted February 15, 2009 Informative and good read. " Encore, or again: the West aims and desires to influence and teach the oriental people, while at the same time not adopting anything from the East. The emergency of the orientalists, (those who subscribe to Orientalism), has played a contributing role in the global events of the past two centuries. For, “the Orientalists believe that the orient is static, unanimous, separate, eccentric, backward, silently different, sensual and passive, and has tendency towards despotism and away from progress.”3 The depiction of the Arab, for example, as irrational, menacing, untrustworthy, anti-western and perhaps most importantly prototypical are ideas into which orientalist scholarship has developed; and these notions are trusted as foundations for both ideologies and policies developed by the West, or the Occident. This is what is held to be an unquestionable truth and the West disgracefully and absolutely backs it. It is clear that the implication here is that Muslims and Arabs cannot be objective, unlike the artificially know ledged orientalists. The dogma of Orientalism not only demotes its subject matter, but also blinds its practitioners, according to the Arab Christian scholar Edward Said. Such evaluation is not merely valid for the Arabs, but also for the non-whites. Much in the same manner, the West has characterized the African as not only lazy, but savage, a beast that kills, beats, steals; he/she is sex crazed and ultimately deprived of intelligence. The purpose of the scholarship and transference of the so-called orientalists to the orient was to colonize. The West was successful in this mission; however, by the time the First and Second World Wars have happened, this false architecture of orientalism has collapsed. In the Cold War, the Orient lost due to the megalomania of its political hack or intriguer leaders, who silenced and ignored their citizens by introducing the system of the cult of personalities (demigods). Today, the substitutes of orientalists are the omnipresent missionaries, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), warlords, and foreign intelligence agencies. This is the new method to which the West is looking to globalize and dominate the World and they will, if they find willing collaborators. Thus far, the West has found such collaborators through the bombing and destruction of individual sovereign nations of the Orient, Africa, and Latin America. Leaders of the West look to attain their imperialist goals through the denigration of weak, backward, silently different and the savage sensual beast since they deem them to be inferior, other, and thus, conquerable. Non-westerner folk are also depicted as dishonest and corrupt, as if the West is the placard child for honesty. However, as the savage and weak colored people are inferior, they are unable to understand the West’s machinations! This is what is waiting for the peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America; this is what the leaders of such peoples must face and confront. http://www.garoweonline.com/artman2/publish/Opinio n_20/Somalia_Institutions_good_governance_integrit y_and_nepotism_Serial_6.shtml
