something is wrong with your diet. eat less greasy food, drink lots of water and fruits. fish is good too but that might also produce oil in your body... im not a physician btw. i passed 10th grade biology with a 61%. so id suggest you see a doctor as well... and if im right, please tell me. id enjoy the ego boost:)

Sister , İ also suffer from pimples or medically called acne - if not vulgaris its papulocystic. I would advice you to see a dermatologist - skin specialist. Ive had to use alot of stuff from oral contracteptives to antibiotics now im on Vitamin A tablets but all were prescribed by the doc. What is usually done they check your hormonal levels sometimes if u have high levels of androgens causes the oily skin and pimples so the hormonal level needs to be kept into control.(OC THERAPY) If its not the hormones they will start u on an antibiotic plus topical medication therapy program for a trial of 6 months if doesnt work out ull be given Vitamin A -isotretinoin. Whatever medicaton they give you has to be monitored as all medication does have effects on the body. can be the liver, fat profil... so ull be called in for checkups.

In my case im now on Vit A tablets im doing fine Alhamdullilah but go for my checkups , the oilyness has also decreased. You have to take extra care with the over the counter stuff they affect our skin.

Something else diet is no longer accepted a cause of acne - its ur genetic make up which matters. So u can eat as much chocolate as u like.

Hey sis

Most of my friends and my co workers have raved about this Proactive Solution is a revolutionary, dermatologist-developed Combination Therapy™ system that helps the skin heal the blemishes you have now - and helps stop new ones from forming - in three quick, easy steps.

A co worker had zits or acne all over her face. She is white so her faced was covered with bad acne. Now her faced cleared up and she told me her whole family and friends use it.

www.proactive.com

even the stars like vanessa williams and britney spears use it.

check it out this is the info she gave me

good luck

sisters please, proactive is not the solution, especially on the description you have, don't mean to be rude from the sister above. its just because i have the acne issues, and man, was i the first person to run for proactive, but it screwed up the skin. i suggest see a dermatoligist, and drink lots of H2o and if u are a sportive/active dudet, by all means, start running, it will help to all my sisters, there is nothing like running!ok, i'll hash up now, haha

^^ i agree with u, proactive is not good for black skin. As a matter of fact any topical solution tends to irrirate and cause further problems such as discloration for our skin according to my dermotalogist.

i've suffered from mild case of acne for a while. the best way to combat this problem is to use combination of things: antibiotics, vitamen A, and or Zinc. U must go to dermotalogist who can tell u what the best way to treat ur skin is. Also, make sure to cleanse ur skin with mild cleanser, and moisturize w/ oil free lotion even if u feel oily.

my black coworker who suffered from acne for many years tried accutane and it worked wonders for her. Her skin is pimple free and totaly smooth. Accutane is very strong medicine but if nothing else works u may want try it.

Hope this helps.

Surviver sis thats the best thing to do. Remember my dermatology prof telling us alot of ppl are misinformed about acne and because of that they use alot of over the counter products then call on the doc after their skin has got spoilt n ask for advice. Hope ur be assisted and treated in no time. smile.gif

Jasmin, Im on the Reaccutane program now -Vit A . It is really working wonders but im trying to fight its side effects. I dont mind the skin dryness, lips cracking up, the epistaxis... its the depression which comes with it thats killing me. Trying to keep myself as motivated as i can. One of the tactic they taught me is imagine urself in a couple of months time. True when i reflect back my skin has changed , scars have minimised skin getting smoother my hair is no longer oily...

My dermatologist told me there maybe a possibility of having a chemical/mechanical peeling done if i wont be satisfied with the results. Im trying to be patient . Coz everything has side effects.

Well, for the acne, u got pretty good tips from the other ladies, so I'll let the experts rule on that...although i do have the occasional pimple due to stress, it hasn't yet made me wanna see a dermatologist...but i think u should go, and they may do a test on u, cause ppl have different reasons on why they get more acne than others...and contrary to popular belief, its not always about the food u eat, rather, more about the environment, level of stress, and ur bodies' ability to produce more oil...hence creates a breeding ground for the bacteria to prosper and turn into a not so cute pimple...also if u wear makeup...make sure its doesn't clog ur pores and lets ur skin breathe, and don't wear it for too long...and clean ur brushes/sponges that u may use to apply makeup..because thats a breeding ground for bacteria too...

Just to make u laugh...i'll tell u what happened to me when i tried to cover up a relatively tiny pimple with a black eyeliner..thinking to make it look cool and make people believe i had a nice birthmark...big mistake!!! The eyeliner ran and i looked like i had a fight with a panther...i had a streak of black running from my chin to to the top of my neck...lol..my manager asked me...i never knew u had a ...err...a beauty mark..and me, not knowing that it dissolved into a nasty mark, proudly said yeah! duh! ....and then i went to the washroom and saw the horrific sight!!! redface.gif ...boy, was i embarrassed...from then on...i display all blemishes...maybe it was God's way of telling me stop wishing for something u don't have...

"Also what are some ways to grow ur hair?,and what shampoos is good for oily hair as well. "

For hair growth, there is this product called Phyto i believe...its pricey but i heard it works...in Canada, not sure if its available elsewhere..but research it in ur area and see if it works for u...as for oily hair...read the labels of shampoos and conditioners cause it will let u know which is for dry or oily hair...caused by oily scalp...best thing to do is when ur using a conditioner...don't massage it into ur roots, that promotes oil to start forming...use it mostly on the ends and middle part...

Hope that helps!

Assalaam alaikum,

Sister, don't feel stressed becasue acne happens to everyone (and those few who aren't bothered by it are truly blessed). First let me just say that I've had my issues with acne, as any other young woman, as a result of high stress, hormonal shifts, neglecting my skin-cleaning regiment, etc. I've also tried a couple of prescriptive acne products, as well as proactiv. But I'll tell you, honestly, these topical solutions are really just Band-Aid solutions to your acne woes.

As x_quisite mentioned, it's true that it's not always about the food you eat, but diet is EXTREMELY significant and will determine whether or not a high-stress period, such as exam-times or even your monthly period, will bring about just one pimple or an entire entourage!

I truly believe nature (by the will of Allah swt) provides sufficient means to combat acne. There is a hadith of the Prophet (saw) that goes "Hold on to (the essential use of) the 'black seed', for

certainly in it is a cure for every sickness except (the sickness which

Allah has decreed for one's) death". Blackseed has been known through the ages to effectively combat many illnesses, particularly skin problems such as eczema and pimples, so inshallah there shouldn't be any reason that it doesn't work for you.

I would also suggest that you visit a doctor and get an allergy test. If you don't know already, such diet staples as milk, other dairy products, and wheat have proven to cause serious skin reactons for women. Furthermore, it is suggested that you refrain from eating too much acidic foods (eg. cola (a BIG no no for skin!), meat products, etc.) in general and trying to maintain a balanced pH body level. That last part is a bit more complicated, but it's not that hard to get a hang of once you know which foods are alkaline-based or acidic-based, inshallah. A trip to your local organic foods/homeotherapy store will set you straight. They'll also be able to provide you with herbal teas that combat acne, as well as caplets of omega-3 essential fatty acids, iron or multivitamin caplets that all promote healthy skin.

I realize this is a long list, but I bear testimony to the effectiveness of this diet. If you'd like more information, feel free to PM me inshallah.

Keep in mind that the majority of the diseases and illnesses humans experience are a result of food or drink.

Arwa

hey abaayo, am not really sure but friends of mine use this product they buy from local arab shops or the somali malls. Its called "Diana" .

They said that it comes with a natural Soap free of chemicals, you wash your face once in the morning with it, and once before you sleep and then apply a small amount of the cream to your face for approximately 4weeks.

so far am yet to see any side effects on any of the girls, and the result is amazing wallahi, one thing though, this cream tends to make you little bit lighter so yeah...I don't think its good in your case.

Don't take my words macaanto i have just heard people speak about it and the fact that its not like any other cream.

like i said am yet to see someone complaining so khyre ayaan kuu rajaynaya.

Most of the sisters gave you good advice so try what suits you best Insha'Allah smile.gif

Salaam

Asalamu'alaykum,

Firstly great topic.

Secondly like Kynda I heard of another product that can be found in our local Somali stores called Rose. Its a cream that I hear works wonders. I know of a sister who was battling acne for a very long time. She's been to many dermatologist and has tried everything, including antibiotics. Some times she would get results but often things went back to the way they were. A few weeks ago I ran in to her and I tell you her face was crystal clear walahi. Not a sign of acne I tell you. I was like masha'allah looks like all the visits to dermitologist really paid off and she told me that after all the money wasted and all the visits she got the most results off a product she just bought over the counter at a Somali shop. Mind you after that I saw the same thing with another friend of mine. I asked her what the catch was and she said the only side effects she had was that her skin started to peel a little after two weeks and then by the fourth week her face had cleared up. It also comes with the soap I hear, but she told me she hadn’t tried it with the soap. Anyway I’m blabbering. Try it out and see how you go, what have you got to lose, if you don’t see the change in a couple of weeks trash it. As for hair, I have been neglecting myself in that department lately. My hair dresser who usually says my hair is pretty healthy (altho I think its too thin) said that my hair was pretty dry and damaged, she actually had cut it. Alhumdulilah I needed a trim anyway. I think all my problems started when I didn’t stock up on my Pantine shampoo. Another shampoo I recommend is Ganier Fructus Fortifying shampoo and conditioner. Also treat your hair once in a while with nafaqoo, and always remember to eat healthy and stay healthy. + Plenty of water.

I almost forgot I read an article awhile back where the writer went out and tried all the options out there to see what actually worked in clearing up skin. Mind you the writer was male so its not a bios opinion, lol. Anyway he tried everything from the most expensive treatments to supermarket products. And then he spoke to a dermatologist who said the best thing for healthy skin is to drink plenty of water and eat soloman (type of fish). So he tried it. For a whole week that was pretty much all he ate. He said that he’s faced never looked healthier, however, he can no longer stand the sight of fish, and he was going to the toilet more times then he could handle. So if you can handle it, that could be another thing you could try.

Wish you all the best darlz,

Wasalaam.
