Deeq A. Posted April 7, 2020 Somalia has received USD 100,000 as a financial contribution from IGAD to combat the Corona Virus on Monday. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji, received the check from Jemal Ahmed, a senior liaison officer for the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development Office in Mogadishu. The financial contributions delivered to members of the regional block is a gesture of solidarity from the staff members of the regional organization towards the Federal Republic of Somalia in its fight against the COVID-19. Contributed funds have been distributed to all member states of the organization in equal installments. IGAD has collected $ 700,000 in financial donation from its 430 active employees in various duty stations throughout the region. The move is aimed to indicate a willingness to participate in efforts to protect the IGAD citizens from the epidemic while showing solidarity with the region. Somalia has so far registered seven COVID-19 cases with one patient fully recovered with no deaths according to the Ministry of Health of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
