The problem with young Somalis in the U.K can best be explained by the information assymetry that exists in most Somali households. Somali parents are not only illiterate but also confined. Their children on the other hand go to school and mix with others. So what emerges is an independent child and dependent parents. So you have to ask how can parents raise their children in such circumstances. The answer is they can't and that is why young Somalis are involved in gangs and drugs in the UK

As the matter of fact, it should've been the other way round, that the older gen from the Somali community rather than the young to feel alienated and unable to adjust with the British way of life. By and large the obvious under achievement at schools by the Somali youth which pushes them towards the wrong end of the society, is primarily as a result of family breakdown, experieced by many and the root causes of this being 'Qat'. Not surprisingly the severe alienations and mental health issues.

Do you somalians who reside in the United Kingdon still learn and are being taught what tribes you are, what tribes are good bad etc and is this made a very important part in your somalian identity? remembering that its tribalism that caused your parents to flee their country in the first place do they believe against this idea or encourage you to accept it? and what do you personally believe
