Posted February 4, 2020 The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab has launched an overnight assault against a military base belonging to the African Union forces in Somalia, the latest in series of attacks in the horn of Africa nation. The militants targeted AMISOM base in Bufow Ba’ad, located on the outskirts of the coastal city of Marka, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle, according to the residents, who spoke to Radio Shabelle. The attack, which began with RPGs, has led to a fierce gunfight between Al-Shabaab fighters and the African Union [AU] troops with both sides suffered heavy casualties. The local authorities are yet to comment on the attack by Al-Shabaab on AMISOM outpost that comes amid ongoing military operations in the region aimed to regain control of areas still under the militants.
