roobleh Posted October 22, 2008 When Jane Fowler hit the dating scene after her 23-year marriage ended in divorce, she didn't think she needed to use protection when she had sex. "I wasn't worried about getting pregnant," says the 72-year-old retired journalist from Kansas City, Mo., "and the man I was seeing was an old friend, also recently divorced." So she was shocked to learn, after having a routine blood test in 1991, that she'd been infected with HIV, a nightmare she hopes to help others avoid by lecturing at senior health fairs. "My mantra is that you never know the sexual history of anyone but yourself." hahaha! classic but unfortunate story. source

SCORPION_SISTA Posted October 22, 2008 lol NG, I was disturbed by the article's comment on how they don't use condom even when they have HIV...Even if you are older the desire to have a physically intimate relationship with someone is still there and I don't begrudge seniors anything It's one of those morning it seems I have run into the topic of sex 3 times already and it is not even 9 A.M. yet Whatever JB

roobleh Posted October 22, 2008 The reality is that we don't associate seniors with either HIV or STD. We assume they're not sleeping with multible partners, but since viagra was discovered they are longing for more sex. JB, one of them was yours! SCORPION_SISTA Posted October 22, 2008 Actually Roobleh, It doesn't require multiple partners to contract STD or HIV, it only requires one partner who has the disease, to contract it from...I think the problem is that people who are in monogamous relationship think their partner is healthy or not straying...And the other problem is that people thinking they know someone makes them believe they would be save with that person or that person would have told them if they had some STD prior to engaging in unprotected sex. Reality is you never really know so therefore you have to protect yourself always. bee bye SS
roobleh Posted October 22, 2008 SS, you're right but the chances of getting HIV increases with multiple partners. A guy, for example, can have sex with a woman who is infected with HIV and still wouldnt contract the virus. If the viral load is less than that required to infect, then you may be safe to have sex with that infected person. How effective your immune system responds to such virus is also important. However, multiple partners increase the chances of acquiring the virus.
