NGONGE Posted June 28, 2004 Pardon my ignorance, but is the bird photo below a Somali one? Or are they called that in the same way some breeds of cats are called Somali?
Liqaye Posted June 28, 2004 Brother, there is a breed of ostriches known as somali ostrich's. Usually there just black with white plummage on their nether regions. Simpo. Is it just me but are those cats just very "beauty challenged"?
Viking Posted June 30, 2004 NGONGE, I think it is called 'Somali' because it is found in areas where Somalis live in northern and north eastern Kenya. Gerenuk on the other hand is a Somali word that has been adopted by the world. It even has the body structure of a Somali, lol. It's such an elegant looking animal. Paragon Posted June 30, 2004 NGONGE, I have chased after many a Ostrich, and surely the one in the picture resembles the Somali type. Oh d'you know for what purposes their egg-shells are used? Containers of liquids. Ostrich = Goroyo. Have you seen them dance? It is said they dance very elegantly. There is a Somali idiom that says: Markii loo geel heesayaad goroyo u heestaa. Meaning, you are digressing from a given topic. (exactly what'am doing now )
