cynical lady Posted September 1, 2009 Lubna Hussein, on trial for wearing trousers 13 women were arrested on July 3, 2009 in Khartoum under Article 152 of the criminal code. They were arrested because they were wearing trousers and have been sentenced to 10 lashes and bail of $100. Three of the women and journalist Lubna Hussein refused the punishment and requested a lawyer and a trial. All four women were granted a presidential pardon, which they refused, challenging the judge to eliminate Article 152 of the criminal code. Lubna Hussein’s trial is scheduled for 9th Sept. Article 152 stipulates that any conduct or clothing in violation of public decency should be punished with 40 lashes. But the Article is vague on what constitutes indecent clothing and stands against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (2005) between North and South Sudan, which recognises the human rights of all Sudanese citizens. The Article is used to harass women in the streets of Khartoum and all over Sudan. Date: Friday September 4th Time: 13.00 - 14.00 Dress code: If possible, please wear trousers Venue: Outside the Embassy of Sudan (3 Cleveland Row, London SW1 1DD, nearest tube is Green Park). Map: Ibtisam you better wear trousers.

NGONGE Posted September 1, 2009 ^^ Yet if they were in France you would be rushing there like free food is being distributed or something. Article 152 is a foolish article that allows ignorant policemen to pick on any woman they like (or dislike). But on the other hand, the Miss Lubna is a blatant attention seeker. Give her the attention I suppose. Much better than random women being lashed for silly reasons.

SayidSomal Posted September 1, 2009 there was one famous woman in qardho: famous for wearing a trousers ONCE to fight a man, who won't pay his debt to her - they nick named Saynab Surweel. nobody owed her money thereafter. as for the case - they should lash that woman like her fellow colleagues and then repel the offending article 142 or whatever is called. (A) The women who put herself into something she should not or (B} the fools who charged her for it or © the pitiful loud mouths and lackeys who whine and weil that a woman's 'right' has been violeted?
