A military court in Somalia sentences soldier to death for killing

A Somali military court on Saturday sentenced a soldier to death by firing squad for killing three civilians in the capital, Mogadishu last year.

The victims — Hassan Ahmed, Hussein Ahmed, and Abdullahi Ahmed — were killed in Karaan district by the soldier, Constable Hashi Ali on June 17, 2018.

“After having heard the case and evidence presented, I hereby sentence Constable Hashi Ali who killed three brothers deliberately in June 2018, to death,” the military judge said.

Meanwhile, the military court judge stressed that the defendant can pursue an appeal.
