Som@li Posted November 17, 2009 Transparency International's latest annual report has ranked 180 countries based on perceived levels of corruption in the public sector, and found war-torn nations were the most corrupt. Afghanistan, Iraq, Burma were among the lowest-ranked, with conflict-ridden Somalia at the bottom for the second year running. New Zealand was the least corrupt, followed by Denmark and Singapore. Rich countries were also criticised over shady banking practices. Robin Hoddess, head of research at Transparency International, spoke to the BBC's Jamie Robertson. Som@li Posted November 17, 2009 Corruption watchdog: Somalia still worst; Singapore, Denmark, New Zealand most upstanding Tuesday, November 17, 2009 EU-Corruption Index BERLIN (AP) - An international watchdog says war-ravaged Somalia remains the world's most corrupt country, followed by Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan and Iraq. The annual report of Transparency International shows that Singapore, Denmark and New Zealand are the most principled countries around the globe. It attributed this strong performance to the "political stability, long-established conflict of interest regulations and solid, functioning public institutions" in these nations. The ranking released Tuesday measures perceived levels of public sector corruption in 180 countries and draws on surveys of businesses and experts. The United States placed 19th in the 2009 survey. That was down from last year's 18th place

Xaq Posted November 18, 2009 What is corruption if there is no government official to corrupt? Somalia should not be on the list because there is insufficient data.
