Jacpher Posted March 6, 2008 ^He meant a different kind of offensive meaning! Dooro is just not the same when you're up north. Perhaps, Northern or JB can break it down further. MMA: Meesheydii lee. Eebeheen waas balan qaaday quudkeena laakiin bini-aadam hunguri lee racdeehaa. Ibtilo aduun mahinoo.

Separatist Posted March 6, 2008 Need some help with some somali words here too. I was asked to test the language skills(somali) of some Somali kids in lower secondary, but the texts (essays) provided contain words that I've never heard of. Words like; Wasaasin ama bareello and Nijaar (Is it a carpenter?) And what do you call these tools in Somali; Screwdriver, saw, a hammer, chimney and a nail (not cidida). Thanks. Jacaylbaro Posted March 6, 2008 Nijaar = Carpenter Screwdriver = Dismis (not dismiss) Saw = Miinshaar Nail = Musbaar Hammer = Dubbe

-Nomadique- Posted March 6, 2008 I really like Ken Livingstone, I hope he gets it.
-Lily- Posted March 6, 2008 ‘U codeey’ sounds best, I liked Che’s translation. Screwdriver has the funkiest Somali translation = kajawiito (somehow that doesn’t sound very Somali, also I think we make up our own words in our household).
Malika Posted March 6, 2008 ^I always thought, screwdriver was called bismis, the kajawiito sound Japanese..Lol We too did make up our own Somali words,as long as they sounded Somali that is.I remember we used to add daa,gaa or kaa at the end of name of items to make them sound Somali..Like Kijikada[kijiko=spoon in swahili]
Jacaylbaro Posted March 6, 2008 dismis not bismis ,,,
