United Nations Envoy, James Swan, Narrowly Escapes Blast In Mogadishu

The United Nations special envoy to Somaliland and Somalia, Ambassador James Swan and his staff narrowly escaped a deadly blast at the Mogadishu municipality building.

The envoy had just concluded a meeting with the Mayor of Mogadishu, Abdirahman Yasiroow, and had departed the building, when a suspected suicide bomber infiltrated the security cordon and set off a deadly blast.

Reports indicate, the blast occurred in a meeting hall, where the leaders of the local districts and the Mayor were holding a conference on security. There are also unconfirmed reports that the UN envoy may have been the target of the bomber.

So, far two district heads are confirmed dead and the Mayor was also wounded in the attack.

Qarannews.com will endeavour to report on any further developments.
