Somaliland: Saudi Arabian Authorities Rescind Directive On Somaliland Livestock

The Saudi Arabian authorities have rescinded a recent directive on the exportation of Somaliland livestock in time for the Hajj pilgrimage.

The directive which as strongly opposed by the Somaliland government stated that “all future exports of livestock from Somaliland must be accompanied by documents issued by the federal administrations in Mogadishu”.

However, it is now clear that no such documentation would be required, since the federal administration in Mogadishu has neither the jurisdiction nor the ability to examine or regulate Somaliland livestock.

As per usual, Somaliland’s opponents ran with the story, only for it to be a non-story. It has always been clear that the weak federal entity in Mogadishu has been engaged in trying to destabilize the economic, democratic and diplomatic progress of Somaliland, whilst paying lip service to “unity and fraternity”.
