Suldaanka Posted June 30, 2019 The Berbera blackhead sheep is actually originally found in only the Somali inhabited regions. Even Ethiopia's Oromo or Afars do not raise this sheep. They have an all brown/red-ish coloured sheep with longer tail. The Somali sheep have a more round fatter behind (Badhi) with short tail.
galbeedi Posted July 1, 2019 Walaahi waa cajiib. We can't even agree the most basic things. If you have an opportunity to sell 3 million heads of livestock, you do it and help the local traders and the small ruler herder, no questions asked. I just found out that the director general of the Somalia Livestock ministry ( Wasaarada Xanaanada Xoolaha) had personally involved to to seal the deal with the Saudis. He said , we made sure that Somaliland to take advantage and ship the livestock without publicity since this was an agreement between states, Somalia and Saudi Arabia. Somalia was willing to give them the necessary documents for the export, yet the " Gaas dhagoole" in Hargeisa want to look tough and deny millions of dollars of hard currency for the local economy. Our friend Suldaanka, who is sipping kiwi at the south of the Atlantic is applauding these moves. As the old sage Bubba said, these ministers use the Somali passport to travel and use for the Hajj and Umrah , yet they deny the poor locals to make a buck. There is no deal here. It is just a cheap attempt by Villa AMISom to persuade the Saudis to deal with them regarding certification of animal's health. This neither has any tangible benefit on the health of the animals since no official from Mogadishu is able to verify anything on the ground. Nor does it prove to Saudis that the certification from Mogadishu will guarantee anything that a Somaliland certificate couldn't. Just a simple logical analysis will null and void the whole thing. And the Saudi Authorities have realised this error in their judgement. Nothing has changed as far as the ban on Somali livestock is concerned outside the peak Hajj season.
