It was the " Bluugle" that was raised in Hargeisa 26 june 1960. 

Subsequent years that followed , especially the first nine years, men , women , young and old used to go " Beerta Xoriyada" to take part of the " Bandhiga Calan saarka"

Not only people used to party until midnight , but those who feel sick or anxious were taken to the party:

Waar way bugtaaye bandhiga geeya ayaa la odhan jiray.

History couldn't be changed because of the growing pains of nations who go through wars, quarrels and other calamities of life.

Are we the only people who fall and couldn't get up. Nations travel through rivers and mountains until they become mature and stable. I don't know when we developed this mentality of never forgetting and living always with regret. 

Our nomadic culture has always been characterized as tough and resilient. We used to bury our dead and exercise patience  while willing tomorrow for better day. It was one of the best qualities along our generosity and fearlessness.

This so called government thing is foreign to us. It supposed to improve the lives of the people and provide security and comfort, yet we transformed it as means of enriching the tribe and live off of the poor people. We keep celebrating villages where even the biggest one doesn't have basic water.

59 years when we  removed  Britain from Somaliland.  It's a  day to remember  sh Bashir  farax omar  sultan nur  Axmed  amaan xaji sudi  shabelle  and haji  muse farax igarre  both sultan diiriyes of hargeysa. Saaxiib, jokes aside, what you seem to think of as a handicap of celebrating one’s own dusty village, I believe, is a necessary ingredient of taking pride in one’s own belongings.

Somalia will do just fine.

Awoowe, any sensible and thinking people would change a flag after it has been tainted with the blood of its citizens. 

I can count the number of countries that have changed the flag from those close to home to those far afield. Even Somaliland had to change its flag which was a White with Green Spot (picture Japan's with green spot rather than the red spot and shahada surrounding the green spot), after the civilwar in 1992-1994. 

The idea is close a chapter and move on to a new page. Reer Wanlawayn are mentally not capable of processing what this actually means and why it is important. 

Which partly answers what @galbeediwas eluding to in his post above. There has to be a clear cut with the bad past and this includes changing the flag and all symbols including songs etc. Laakin, xaydha jecli, beerka jecli. 30 years and they are no where near close to a solution.

Here you are trying to justify the unjustifiable, defend the indefensible, and excuse the inexcusable.

Somalia descended into civil war. Atrocious events have taken place, and every other Somali is trying to move forward while you’re forever trying to capitalize on the lives that were lost in the civil war.

Bluugle was your essence and pride and dignity. But you chose to forsake it because rag baa waa xabad isku rideyn... That is just some sheer utter nonsense, mate.

Quit the graveyard digging and let the dead Rest In Peace for once, and learn to celebrate your history and blue flag.

In the context of the Somali state attacking its own people, name a single other incident of similar magnitude to what took place in Somaliland as perpetrated by Afweyne's goons, i.e. name any other occasion were the Somali airforce along with the Somali army bombed Somali cities, causing the complete destruction of the second and third largest Somali cities at the time. The planting of landmines in residential homes, the strafing of refugees heading to the Ethiopian border...etc. 

If you can not name any other event of this magnitude or scale then your entire argument falls apart. You just become an apologist of a state that committed genocide on a scale never seen before in Somali history.

I am, in fact, of the opinion that the Kacaan socialist regime was a disastrous plague that set Somalia back and the cause of our unending troubles. The coup that brought Afweyne to power in ‘69 was one of our darkest hours as Somalis.

However, at the end of it all,  that regime had reaped what it had sowed for itself and it is history.

Somalis everywhere now are trying to pick up the pieces and slowly trying to come together under a Federal framework that ensures the freedoms and the dignity of all Somali people.

I urge you to do your part.

I too, don’t see the value of celebrating such an embarrassing epoch our long history as Somalis, when foreign powers had subjugated  and colonized Somalia.

If I had my way, I would go as far as having it remove from Somali history books.
