Ismahaan Posted June 5, 2009 The Somali culture is dying especially with us in western nations because the people are abandoning the Somali literature and culture. Culture is always changing from generation to generation but we really need to keep our culture alive. Our children need us to teach them our languages,DEEN, our cultures, our traditions as well as values . We should be proud of what we are and never pretend to be like others or adopt their cultures. So today let’s share our beautiful culture heritages. Let’s do our bit to keep our dying culture and nation alive. May Allah bring peace and stability to Somalia and May HE unite us again Ameen. Peace and Love to all Somali people. Our traditional clothes are so beatiful-inaba cadi ma aha This dance is called hoobalow hilowle Enjoy these Great Videos. I hope you like it! Tuujiye Posted June 6, 2009 Ismahaan caadi ma tihid yaaqee.. waa qiireysan tahay runtii oo waan u jeedaa dhiiga aa ku kacsan looool... Walaashee laakiin waan ka xumahay because the truth is, the more we are away from our country, the farther we will be moving from our culture. Thats a fact and not a myth walaal.. Yes we might remind our self what we had and teach our kids about our culture but cultures are held on to because of the sociaties we live in. As somali people, our Culture was our ways of life and some times we mixed the two our religion and culture. our culture was too strong and rich that is why it was hard to differentiate between the two. I guess in this case all we have is to hold on to the past and try our best to guide the next generation. How ever the fact is that is hard to live a culture in a country that is not your own and thats why we see so many cultural clashes today. Ilaahoo dhulkeenii nabad noogaga dhig! Wareer Badanaa!!! As somali people, our Culture was our ways of life and some times we mixed the two our religion and culture. our culture was too strong and rich that is why it was hard to differentiate between the two. I actually agree with you to a point. Generally in any particular country, people are not even living in the same way as they were living before, and yes people who move to other countries forget the exact origins of their culture. However, we do have responsibilities. Our culture is who we have been and what we have become. Thus we should always keep in mind some basic features and characteristics of our Islamic/Somali culture. Wherever we live we should not forget our culture and language. If we forget our culture and/or language, we forget who we are- and so we will ALL be nothing more than salt diluted by the waters. However, there’s another issue here. As you mentioned – people often get religion and culture mixed up.The mixing of religion and culture – regardless of how sincere and honourable one’s intentions are – is like playing with fire, the consequences of which could be very serious and destructive. Our culture must be based on the Qur’an and the Sunnah of our prophet (SCW) as well as on great human experience and learning. For instance: our culture states it is customary for the women to take care of the house and the children. And that the man must make the money, protect the family, and teach the children Islam. This aspect of our culture is based on the Qur’an as well as Sunnah. So soo macquul ma aha manta waxa Somalidu isla fahmi la dahay in aay tahey culture koodi and dhaqan kaay lahaayeen oo aay ka tageen iyagoo waliba aan diinta si fiican u aqoon? ...Ameen to your du'ah...Bless

NASSIR Posted June 9, 2009 Ismahaan is indeed amazing Xaawo Taako and Araweelo combined. In North America, there are many charter schools founded by somali communities. Are there any Somali courses offered to the kids? Most parents make it compulsory for their kids to learn the Qur'an and the religion hiring private macalimiin. What about at the recommendation of making it compulsory for our kids to learn the reading and writing of Somali language and academic literature that would bolster the kids' understanding of the non-Somali approach of schooling. Some type of a great movement is needed to counter the decline of Somali literature.
