Saalax Posted June 11, 2019 | 4:05 pm 11th Jun, 2019 Somaliland: Proposal For New Road In Somaliland Without Government Consent Hargeisa, (Qaran news)-An agreement has been reached in principal to construct a new major road between Lawya’Adde and Borama with a connection to the town of Jig’Jiga in Ethiopia. According to sources this agreement was reached by the governments of Djibouti and Ethiopia, along with the federal entity in Mogadishu. The government of Somaliland, under the administration of President Muse Bihi Abdi is apparently neither a signatory to the project nor a participant in the discussions of the project. The new road is to be funded jointly by the European Union, the World Bank and the African Development Bank. Sources indicate that the government of Somaliland was not made aware of the projects and it’s planning meetings. It is extremely unlikely that such a development project can take place in Somaliland, without the consent of the administration and furthermore, the involvement of the federal entity in Mogadishu, which has no authority whatsoever within the territorial borders of Somaliland, is merely designed to cause friction within the communities in Somaliland, and also with the neighboring countries of Ethiopia and Djibouti. Reliable sources confirm the funding parties, the EU, World Bank and the African Development, had expressed their concern about the feasibility of the project without the participation and approval of the Somaliland government. However, there is also indication that the funding group were convinced to proceed with the project by the Djibouti government who apparently guaranteed the co-operation the administration of President Muse Bihi Abdi. The Somaliland government has yet to comment on or to clarify it’s involvement in this proposed project. https://qarannews.com/somaliland-proposal-for-new-road-in-somaliland-without-government-consent/

Suldaanka Posted June 11, 2019 All Developments should be welcomed. This initiative if it becomes realised will bring the 3 Somali regions's economies more tightly closer. For the record, Baile is building a 6 storey Hotel in Hargeisa. Ninka nin shaqaystay weeyan.

galbeedi Posted June 11, 2019 Jeegaan will build nothing in AWdal. THere are thousands of people who have relatives in Djibouti and they would welcome speedy connection with to Djibouti. The Awdal coast needs roads and connection as well as roads to Jigjiga.

Tell me what did Afwayne build for Awdal? At least, Somaliland can boast that the Dilla to Borama Road fully financed and built. And now the Borama to Camuud road is being built by the Gov't. There are numerous roads built in Borama city as well.
Old_Observer Posted June 12, 2019 What is the point of this article other than childish schoolyard talk. Roads are built by real people and real machines and never by Twitter or face book. Ghelleh will never sign or talk anything without having a good talk with anyone remotely involved. He never liked Illey, but will talk to him even if Ghelleh is building a one room house in Dirdaba or Shinnille. He never will say I have talked with Meles or Abiy and go ahead. On that account only this is a manufactured theatrics. Even big China talked with Somaliland about the security of pipeline even though the pipeline has nothing to do with Somaliland territory or people. Tallaabo Posted June 12, 2019 I welcome any development in Somaliland and this road is badly needed anyway. However, of course nothing will get off the ground without a planning permission from the government of Somaliland so it is a matter of when and not if the government of Somaliland gets involved. Here in the UK and other first world countries, you can propose and raise funds for whatever project you desire but when it comes to starting it and digging up the ground, you will need a planning permission in your hand. This is how it works and not by hosting Facebook parties. I suggest that the government gives the green light to this project but takes control of all the operations. By the way, the Ceel Daahir to Ceergaabo road is also very welcome
