Recommended Posts

The latest craze making its way around policy corridors. Hope you read and engage with the publication because its going to impact foreign policy in regards to Somalia.

Two decades of conflict in Somalia and countless failed foreign interventions has today left more than 1.3 million Somalis displaced and 3 million in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Yet there are success stories of Somali peacemaking. Too often these have been overlooked and unsupported.

Conciliation Resources presents the latest publication in our Accord series, Whose peace is it anyway? connecting Somali and international peacemaking, and an accompanying policy brief. The publications are free to download: www.c-r.org

The 21st edition in our series Accord: an international review of peace processes explores Somali peacemaking and seeks to inform better understanding and complementarity between indigenous Somali and international policy and practice.

The edition includes over 30 articles, from interviews with Somali elders and senior AU, IGAD and UN diplomats, to contributions from Somali and international peacemaking practitioners, academics, involved parties, civil society and women’s organizations.

The policy brief sets out key findings from successful Somali peacemaking and conclusions for international policy. Lessons highlight the need for reconciliation and governance to be homegrown, with the international community providing strategic support.
