Somaliland: Kulmiye & UCID Delegation To Kenya Rebuffed By EU Ambassadors

Nairobi(Qarannews): The five member delegation from Kulmiye and UCID political parties, led by Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and Faisal Ali Warabe met with several ambassadors from EU countries, such as Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom to discuss the current political stalemate in Somaliland regarding the prospective parliamentary and local council elections scheduled for December, 2019.

However, it would appeared that they have been rebuffed in their attempt to convince the EU donors that issues have been resolved.

According to reliable sources, a meeting which took place at the Danish embassy in Nairobi between the delegation and the EU ambassadors ended without an agreement or an official communique.

Our sources confirm that the EU ambassadors were not convinced that the political impasse regarding the scheduled elections had been resolved and the absence of Waddani, Somaliland’s main opposition party, from the meeting made it quite clear that there still work to be done.

There are now six months left before the elections are to be held, and the moribund Somaliland National Elections Commission has still to began preparation for voter registration and other the steps needed for the voting to take place.

Meanwhile, the equally moribund Somaliland House of Representatives has still yet to produce an elections bill that will enable the vote to take place.

Speaking to the media, some members of the delegation accused the Waddani party and it’s chair, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi “Cirro” of spreading lies and disinformation about Somaliland to EU donors.

A delegation from Waddani are expected to travel to Nairobi in the near future to put their own case to the EU ambassadors, meanwhile, the deadline for holding the elections looms ever closer.
