Captain Warya Posted January 31, 2009 I know basic somali but I want to be fluent. I can barely read somali becouse I get very confused. I cannot really engage in meaningful conversation without looking like a fool with my somali-english gibberish. Any books or cd's that might help me? Aaliyyah Posted January 31, 2009 I really think learning somali is pretty easy. Since, it's all about sounding it out. My advice would be reading Somali newspapers. It's all about practice, practice makes perfect. And, theres this one book that I own. It's somali proverbs written by a russian man Georgi Kapchits, and I love reading it. It actually improved my somali a whole lot. But, I don't know where you can find it, it was actually my dad's. But, yeah I guess buying books in somali would help you. You should check out somali stores at your local place. I see you're in canada? where in canada would that be? if it's toronto ...there's this somali store at lawrence/weston..check it out, I know they sell cds and movies. But, am not sure about books, bt am sure even watching somali videos can help your somali.. salaam
ANTARA Posted January 31, 2009 it is very easy to read and write somali, it took me only 1 week at the age of 13. the main rules you need to know are: 1) c = which is pronouncded as the arabic leter "ع " as in calan , cali or cumar 2) x =is pronounced the same as the arabic leter " ح " , e.g xasan or xuseen 3) if the letters repeat ..twice at the max it is called "shaqal dheer" as in "dheer" if not it is "shaqla gaaban". yaa warya am assuming u know basic arabic alphabets, all u need is lil bit of help with the rest & u can can do it urself. it is even better if you find da CD's the sister mentioned and good luck bro.
