Bollywood tells Nollywood to beware of Hollywood

Slumdog millionaire swept the Oscars and Bollywood didn’t get glad, they were maaaaad. Western movie critics have among many things described the movies as an exhilarating, breathtaking and exciting fresh look. Bollywood critics say the movie is over-hyped, disappointing and unconvincing.

 

Soutik Biswas of the BBC further argues that Slumdog Millionaire is an imitation of Indian films that have been “routinely ignored” and suggests that, “if you are looking for gritty realism set in the badlands of Mumbai, order a DVD of a film called Satya by Ramgopal Verma. The 1998 feature on an immigrant who is sucked into Mumbai’s colourful underworld makes Slumdog look like a slick, uplifting MTV docu-drama.”

 

“Know where you are in the food chain,” Bollywood warns Nollywood. Bollywood, which is reputed to be the largest film industry in the world, thought that Slumdog Millionaire would get them the recognition they so long deserved. It must have been the ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ They advice Nollywood, which is reputed to be the third largest film industry, to be prepared for disappointment. On that note, keep an eye out for ‘Beyonce, The President’s Daughter is finally in America’ coming to a theater near you.

Slumdog millionaire was beautiful and i keep rewinding at the following scenes:

 

The Runaway scene - nice intense music

 

The Train scene - Finally that crazy artist M.I.A get some deserved attention for her cool music

 

also LOL@ when they get kicked out by the conducter the streetkid replies: ''Is this your Dad's train then?'' lmao

 

Taj Mahal scene - when the kid gets beaten up by a crazy cop after the car of an American tourist couple is dismantled

 

Streetkid: ''You wanted to see the real India,well HERE IT IS!!! lmao

 

and of course AR Rahman as always comes with a beautiful soundtrack, a real gem this movie man! It's not a negative portrayal of India at all, what you see in the movie is already known plus the rapid growth of the economy is highlighted by all the new skyscrapers being build on former slums, so i don't get the anti-hype from Indian groups.
