Hargeisa, ( Qaran news)-The Somaliland National Elections Commission, (NEC) held a meeting with two of Somaliland’s national political parties, Kulmiye and UCID, but failed to invite the other party, Waddani.

The meeting which took place in the NEC’s offices in Hargeisa, was to according to a press release issued by UCID, to exchange views on the parliamentary and local elections scheduled for December, 2019.

The delegation from both parties consisted of senior members, including the 1st Deputy-Chair of Kulmiye and Home Affairs minister, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, 2nd Deputy-Chair, Ahmed Abdi Dhere “Obama”, Secretary-General, Hassan Saeed, former minister Abdi-asis Samale, meanwhile, UCID was represented by Ahmed Abdi Abyam prospective deputy-chair, Professer Qaasin Tubeec, and other officials.

According to the UCID press release, the NEC briefed the two parties on the main hurdles to holding the elections, funding from the international donors, the election bill from the House of Representative and the directive from President Muse Bihi Abdi.

The other Somaliland party, Waddani, was not at the meeting and according to reliable sources within the NEC, was not even invited to or made aware of the meeting. However, given the position of Waddani towards the current commission whose mandate is set to expire before the scheduled election in December, it would have been highly unlikely for them to participate.
