Husband says he whipped 'devilish' wife

Dubai: A man described his wife as a "devilish woman" before a court after he admitted to whipping her with the cord from the headdress "because she prevented him from disciplining his son".

 

"My wife is a devilish woman. I didn't swear at her but I whipped her with my headdress cord after she prevented me from entering the house to discipline my son for having a fight at school," the 47-year-old husband told Dubai Court of Appeal yesterday.

 

Imprisonment

 

The Public Prosecution charged him with assaulting his wife and defaming her. Dubai Court of First Instance handed him a two-month suspended imprisonment. He appealed the initial ruling and was seeking to clear his name.

 

"My wife started behaving devilishly since I married a second [time]. She has been dragging me to court every now and then," the husband told the judge.

 

When the 47-year-old admitted to assaulting his wife, he took off his own headdress cord and showed the judge how he whipped her.

 

"My son had a school problem. She blocked the doorway and prevented me from entering the house to punish him, so I gave her a mild whip," said the suspect.

 

The husband also expressed his fears that his wife will do whatever it takes to convince the court to have him serve his imprisonment.

 

The judge informed him that she couldn't do that.

 

Yet the suspect replied: "She will do that because she has been dragging me to court since I had a second wife."

 

The appeal's verdict will be heard soon.
